Guest guest
Just to let you know I am flying to NYC after Sabbath this Sat night, returning Wed night. I am a bit worried about the flying, I am the " clutch the nearest person " type on takeoff and landing, (usually DH or Zehava, Yeshaya just teases me mercilessly!) a bit difficult when I am flying alone! Being religious helps, but it has a downside too, as I wonder if God is weighing up my respective good and bad deeds and deciding what I deserve! Again, flying with DH helps here too, as I rely on his good deeds to add to my merits! Friends have been supplying me with addresses of good places to go to for clothes, another plus size lady who recently made a wedding has been phoning me with alternatives in London should I not find anything (I think she was saying " well if you *don't* go... " ...too late for me, I'm going!!) She even offered to let me wear her dress! This same lady said that it was worth buying bedlinen and towels there for the bride's trousseau. This worries me. Flying alone, I don't think I can schlep back so much stuff, and secondly I have no idea of Zehava's taste. So I think bedlinen will have to be on the wedding list and that's it. This trip is 99% selfish. Zehava wants a closed-back NYC baseball cap (to wear with a hat wig eventually) and twin sets galore from a certain shop in Brooklyn. Other than that she doesn't trust me to buy for her. I haven't been feeling very well recently either; a chesty cough and sore throat has lingered past an entire 10 day course of antibiotics. Yesterday I went to see Dov's dad (a GP but not mine, he's just nice about seeing me) and he took a blood test to check on *everything.*. I always worry about blood tests, and can't rest until I know I haven't got some dread disease. Is anyone else the same about blood tests? Anyway everything showed up as 100% normal, including cholesterol, liver and kidney function, white blood cells, thyroid etc. (so no easy excuse for being fat!). So I'm on the soluble aspirin. Anyone got any other good cures for a lingering sore throat and cough? Sorry for self obsessed ramble. Ruthie
Guest guest
Tried honey and lemon? Our local Safeway sells one already mixed, with the rest of the honey. I think honey contains a good antiseptic and the lemon boosts your Vit C. HTH and have a lovely trip to NY Francesca NY here I come! I don't take milk in my tea, haven't for years, only lemon or lime, so all that vit c must have got into me somehow! The honey is recent, and I don't like the taste of it in tea so much. Maybe I'll just take a spoonful on its own, and drink the tea plain Thanks for the tips. Ruthie

Early nights, positive thinking, eat fresh salads and fruit three times a day before cooked food, and take slow release Vit C and Bioforce Echinaforce Drops (x 3 a day) in water; garlic pearles (can get de-sniffed version), umm and get DH to do a back massage or at least neck and head ... oh, and a bit of choc to keep you happy! Oh, and red sage tea for throat plus honey/lemon drinks.... love Caro
Guest guest
Ruthie, I've been meaning to ask for a while. When does Zehava have to wear a wig? and if she cuts her hair short when will she do this? and does she mind? Hannah NY here I come! (I hope) This trip is 99% selfish. Zehava wants a closed-back NYC baseball cap (to wear with a hat wig eventually)

Well, all unmarried girls find it a hard transition, covering their hair for the first time, and knowing it's for keeps. But since today's custom wigs are so light and so soft and natural looking and feeling, the hardship is much reduced, compared to the lumps of dead looking woody hair previous generations used to have to plonk on their heads. She will have at least two stunning wigs and will look a million dollars in them, as her sisters do. And I don't look so bad in mine, either! When? Most brides cover their hair properly the morning after the wedding. Some very strict sects insist on a bride wearing a wig for her wedding ceremony already, but most don't. Zehava will cover hers the next morning. Will she cut her hair short? No. At least in the beginning, most girls keep their hair length the way it is, and just clip it up out of the way. Some times after years, they find it impractical (as I did) and cut it short. I found the bunched up hair under the wig formed a bump. I prefer the short crop I have now.
