Guest guest
Been very laid back here and now wondering if I should be concerned. DS1 has had a cough for 2 weeks and it is not really getting any better despite having had cough medicine everyday. DS2 has now just started with it. Do I ignore it or do I start to think about ringing the GP for an appointment in another week (1 week standard waiting at our practice) or do I make a more urgent appointment for DS1? I hate taking them to the GP and tend to put it off for as long as possible but am now wondering how long a cough should go on for! If they get over it you can always cancel. If it is just a cold there is nothing much they will do, but a cough that goes on for weeks is more likely to be a slight infection - I have had one since Thursday of last week and am taking my second lot of antibiotics, but it is still hanging on. You could try putting their pillows and teddies through the wash or in the freezer, if you've room, to rid them of dust mites, which may be the problem, too. Hope that helps Ruth > Jack 8, 6 and Isaac 2 > > >
Guest guest
Yes, I'd make an appointment and as Ruth says you can always cancel it if it's better by then. Mine have all had coughs and splutters (mainly while we were away in Aberdeen last week which ended in emergency appointments to strange GPs up there!), but now the baby has it and is just coughing up all his feeds in quite a spectacular way. He now feels very hot so I've just taken his temp and it's up to 39.5 which I think is about 102 degrees. We did see our GP this morning who put him on antibiotics so I guess we'll just have to wait for it to work. Hope your Jack is better soon.
