Guest guest
I wouldn't actually *pay* for a listing on a search engine - everyone uses a different one so you're not actually achieving a guaranteed improvement. Use a submission tool to do multiple free submissions to *all* the search engines. It does take up to 8 weeks for your listings to hit, but that gives you time to get your site in order Adwords at ?yahoo? or it could be altavista.. are cheapish and at least have some targetting. What are you selling - are there communities/bulletin boards/ newsgroups where you could advertise (don't spam!) Paying for search engine listing gets very expensive, though, and you can achieve exactly the same by doing the free submission and just waiting a bit... Guest guest
I have bought domain names through them, but not hosting - I also host on Freeserve, and find it fine. Ruthie hosts - I can't remember the URL of her outfit though! There was a thread a couple of weeks back about hosts, which you could look up in the archives for good ideas. I've never had any problems with UK2.net - at the moment they forward to my own webspace (which is part of my demon account) on the 'free' scheme. SO uses them to host all his sites for work (they have a RAQ server there) and I used to host another business site there direct. They aren't the cheapest, but in 3 years of using them I've never had any down time, although I will admit that none of my sites has been particularly high bandwidth - I just don't go in for that sort of thing (which anyone looking at my site will agree!!). Which reminds me - I'd better pay them to get rid of the banners... Yours, -- Helen Armfield helen@...
