Guest guest
I took my laptop with me to NYC but forgot to bring the modem cable!! I thought it would be a simple thing to buy a replacement but it seems that connectors for card modems (pmcia) come with the card modem and that's that. Is that so, bin man? Cos every computer store I have either visited or phoned so far says it's not possible to buy a modem connector and cable for my laptop. So, you may ask, how am I writing this? Well, my nephew here in Brooklyn has this Mac.... I am *very* unfamiliar with Macs. Do they have a " backspace " key? Blowed if I can see it. Also he has AOL and none of the programs I am familiar with. I am very jetlagged, but have put in a good day's shopping, and am sitting in nephew's very messy bedroom, eyes closing. Surprisingly, I didn't find such a huge choice as I had expected to, and at one point was getting so despondent that I could see myself going home without anything for the wedding. I certainly haven't found the WOWOW dress of my dreams and there IS much more choice for smaller sizes (( but I have found a few things, and one thing I * think* is suitable for the dinner. (Zehava insists I wear long... Bossy boots!) It's a long black skirt with a gypsy effect layered skirt, sort of organza/taffeta, worn with a black camisole and this gorgeous sparkly jacket, black with silver, long sleeved, just total glitz, all over. Besides that I have found a few other things. I have bought Zehava a twin set and skirt which I *think* she will like, but she will probably hate, knowing my luck. My SIL and BIL and nephew say I *should* go to Ground Zero, it's history. On Tuesday morning early my nephew, who works near the WTC, is driving us into Manhattan. We will visit the area, then go on elsewhere. I want to go to Canal St (Chinatown) and look at the posh stores, and Sharon (SIL) wants to go to art galleries. Wasn't there a member on here who wanted me to get her some perfume in Macy's? IF so please post ASAP. No good emailing me privately, as I don't have access to my private email account. (unless bin man or another techie can tell me how to get pop 3 email from this mac without my usual email software. (eudora). I would love to be able to email Tavya, I am sure she is wondering where I am! Nephew is taking my card modem to work tomorrow (law firm) to see if anyone there has a laptop with similar card modem and cable. Oh well, at least I have his mac in the meantime! Guest guest
probably a bit late. james whose younger sister just announced she is 14 weeks pg. I am *so* excited > I took my laptop with me to NYC but forgot to bring the modem cable!! > I thought it would be a simple thing to buy a replacement but it seems > that connectors for card modems (pmcia) come with the card modem and > that's that. Is that so, bin man? mostly, yes. There are a few pc card modems that have a pop-out attachment that accepts an RJ-11 (us phone style) connector that woould be easy to get, but most have either a proprietary cable or a pod that converts between the card-end and an RJ-11 cable. It is gettiung more common to see a built in modem on laptops these days (much like an i-mac) which just takes RJ-11 > No good emailing me privately, as I > don't have access to my private email account. I am pretty sure hotmail also allows you to access other pop3 accounts but you obviously get more spam in the acct as well... > Nephew is taking my card modem to work tomorrow (law firm) to see if > anyone there has a laptop with similar card modem and cable. They may find a match but it would be simplest if they could just loan you a card *and* a cable god luck with the rest of the shopping (if you aren't already on the plane back) james
Guest guest
> Wasn't there a member on here who wanted me to get her some perfume in > Macy's? IF so please post ASAP. It was Anneliese. She doesn't seem to post every day so she may not see your message before you fly home. From the archives: It was a bottle of perfume! Dirt cheap in Macy's (well, pricy dirt but ykwim) but only available in Bond St and Sloane St in the UK... I'll have a think about whether I really want it without another test and let you know... Guest guest
Ruthie, you were my first thought when I just heard the news. Very relieved to hear that you were not in the air - hope you are not stranded too long! Guest guest
Very glad you are OK, Ruthie, thought of you as soon as I heard something had happened in NYC yet again. But excuse me if I worry more about the victims than about when you get a flight back!
