Guest guest
Still not got to the garage to look for the old one, but was tickled when Joyce wrote: One advantage of the US system is that the postman picks up post from your mailbox - it has a little flag on the side that you use to signal you have post for pick-up. Here, being pseudo-rural (the last bit of greenery are the fields opposite between our road and the river or the railway), things are a bit different from in town. Dave our postman is great: he'll take any post you have when he calls to deliver, he sometimes uses the box, but more often than not if you're in he'll drive up and drop off on the doorstep or ring te bell. If he spots you on your way out in the morning he'll stop and give you your mail too. If you're out, he'll leave it with a neighbour he never sticks a card to say its back at the depot. And if the postage is short,he'll deliver it anyway and ignore the 'money to pay' sticker (get a lot of those, it's all those chaps sending their photos of aging lorries who think a whole photo album will come under the 60g weight for first class!). I always tip him generously at Christmas (saving hard now) - he's worth it! Miranda www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk
Guest guest
Our posties do the same here (rural) - so would be interested to know how much you tip Miranda, if it's OK to talk about {money} here....!
