Poor goat too. I had a guinea pig die and his > rabbit mate stayed in his hutch bedroom for two days and didn't eat > for a week Buffy (the goat) is very sad, she keeps wandering in and out of Blackjacks old stable, and sniffing the floor where he was found! My other two horses are holding their heads low, off their food, dont want to go out and are both box walking all night! Its sad, but nice to know that animals greieve, and that we are all going through it together! Cremation is this afternoon at 5pm, I will feel better then. Just want to get his ashes home so we can bury him, and plant an apple tree. Thanks for all your support,

Both my labs were bereft when our cat was killed by a car and sat quietly by us when we buried him in the garden and my black lab was inconsolable when her mate Jake died. She used to sit in the field where we buried him for ages. Jake never howled but when the horse I used to share was involved in a horrific traffic accident my DH had the most bizarre experience with him. DH was walking him on a beach about 6 miles away from the accident when Jake suddenly sat down put his head back and let out the most enormous howl. He then stared to whimper and head back at a fast lab trot to the car followed by DH (dog well known for bogging off for hours) and just sat in the car crying, DH took him to the pub to cheer him up and this dog who would normally kiss everyone in sight just curled up under a table. About three hours later DH & I finally got together and when I told him of the accident he was able to time it to Jakes strange episode.Jake BTW flattened me a! nd would not stop loving me and I had not been riding that day, my friend had. If you are worried about them grieving over a long period of time or going down hill the Homeopathic remedy Ignatia works well with dogs.
