Guest guest
Yup! In the grot-hole we call the study. I filled the boot of the Serena to the ceiling 4 times and took it to the tip! Oh, virtue virtue ) I even threw away the desk ) DH FINALLY (after 4 years of nagging) agreed that the revolting old desk he 'recycled' from a skip when his local branch of Abbey National was being refitted sometime in the early 80s could be chucked out. I grabbed the car keys and was on the way to Ikea almost before the sentence was completely out of his mouth, and 'forgot' to take my mobile, so he couldn't ring and tell me he'd changed his mind ) My fastest ever Ikea trip... to Warrington and back in 2 1/2 hours, and round the store in 45 minutes. Desk chosen, purchased built and installed within 5 hours of DH's agreement. If that doesn't teach him, nothing will ) And I've had 22ish lice out of DS since yesterday ( Have shorn his beautiful curls: from 3 inches of curly blonde halo to a no. 4. I wept!! He still has loads of eggs but hopefully now it's shorter, he'll tolerate me picking them out. We did a tea-tree in baby oil soak and comb-through for everyone. DD1 and I slept with the solution still in, and I washed the babies' out after 3 hours. Then shampoo and conditioner comb-through. Picking out everything I saw before, during and after. I've ordered some Folicell from one of the sites Jo posted up yesterday which I hope will arrive tomorrow as the eggs in DS' hair will continue to hatch for days. Anyway, DD2 seems clear (I think her hair's too fine) DH is clear (hair too short), DD1 and I have slight infestation, DS is alive. DD1 and I are just back from the hairdresser - her hair has gone from mid-back to collar-length: a bit longer than I wanted to keep it, but it'll make it a bit easier, and mine's gone from shoulder to ear-length. I *hope* we'll be through this in a week or so ( Ho hum, better go and cook tea... Vicki however know that Vicki has done a 27 >boogie fling on one room resulting in 4 car loads of stuff reassigned >into the wider market system (or was it the dump, Mrs V?) and also on >Josh's head but expect she will be posting about that... DS had lice once last term for the first time - I caught four. His school phoned the moment I got home and insisted I collect him at once - we spent the day encased in nit shampoo! By the way, for tea - are you having what DS calls " Flied Lice? " Ruth
Guest guest
I didn't think school and nurseries etc were allowed to " exclude " children for head lice these days. Certainly not around here anyway. Todman Treasurer, Stansted Branch (R5) Mum to , 3¾ > Oh dear - poor you! DS had lice once last term for the first time - I > caught four. They had head checks at DD's school before half term. Their policy 'in the event of live lice being discovered.....is to telephone parents for immediate action'. -- Sue

I think that must only happen in private schools at the school nurse is not allowed to do that in state schools (well not around here anyway). Talking of Head Lice, DS had one this morning which I caught. This school is altogether more sensible and didn't exclude him, thank goodness - the one that did closed last term if you remember . Ruth - itching myself at the memory of that hapless Head lice this morning - YUK!

Better to stamp out each really bad infestation immediately it is found - ie if there are more than one or two which can be caught each morning if necessary - by covering the head in Lice Shampoo in the morning at home and washing it out the next morning. Most teachers will send home work so the child doesn't miss out. I think so anyway - there is nothing worse than keeping your own child's head clear only to find that someone else's child has been spreading them for a week before anyone said anything. Lice just spread over and over again unless they are excluded. Ruth

We have the school nurse doing nit checks - and yes it is a private school. They were appallingly bad at DS1's previous school (state primary) - no obvious policy in dealing with them, so all the teachers had their own rules - some would phone immediately they found them and insist the parents pick up their child from school, some would put a note on the classroom door warning parents that a case had been found and other didn't do a thing about it (even if they knew their was a case in their class) so DS1 was always picking them up. DS2's nursery refused to put up any info about them (I offered to photocopy some info sheets as DS2 was getting infected at Nursery) - as they would be thought of as a 'Dirty playgroup' - oh purlease!!!
