Ok, if you had a choice of the following plans which would you go with and

why...have to pick our new provider by the 14th

BlueChoice(Blue Cross/Blue Shield)

Cigna

Kaiser

United HealthCare

I know I have heard time and again not to go with Kaiser, which I am confused

about since they look good on paper(yes, I know looks can be deceiving, lol) so,

what do ya'll think? who have you dealt with in the past and who do you deal

with now...all input would be very helpful!!!!!

What type of plan? PPO, POS, HMO. We have cigna PPO and it's not bad. We pay

$15 for doctor visits and 20% of everything else after $350 deductable and your

$15 visits count towards that deductable.

The boys have blue cross and blue sheild and I could take them or leave them.

My sil has Kaiser, says it's not that good. I have experience with BCBS and

Cigna. The coverage depends on what the employer chose. If your kids

require any special care, be sure you don't choose an HMO, unless you want

them to dictate who you see and what you can have done. For us, it would be

a nightmare to have an HMO.

Are the companies you're looking at PPO? I'm assuming you have a book of

Dr.'s that participate in your group? Are your regular doctors in the

group? How do the copays and deductibles compare? The out of pocket cost

for the coverage itself? Compare the maximum out of pocket costs for the

annual coverage.

If you have any specific questions about them, or want to know what else to

check on, let me know.

Read through the paper work for what it stands for, or call the person in

benefits and ask them what the difference is. They should be more than

willing to help you.

I have had Kaiser, United Healthcare and BlueCross/Blue Shield. As an insurance

claims and billing specialist, I would say that United Healthcare is the lesser

of the 4 evils. As the Mom of a special needs child, I would honestly pick

Kaiser. I know, as you've said, they have a lot of " bad press " but I never had

a problem with them for Evan.

Good luck!!

Missy,

I told you

Cigna if you can get the PPO. I wouldn't do their HMO. No one takes it.

Aside from comparing rates, deductibles, etc., do you know what kind of

services you'd like to access via your insurance? For instance, if you want

your child to receive speech therapy, you might want to compare the number of

visits/hours per year each insurer offers, etc.
