Guest guest
More hugs to , brave and true girl ... I've read bits of a book about animals by Rupert Sheldrake called 'Dogs that Know when their Owners are Coming Home and other unexplained powers of animals' (this guy is even less concise than me!!!) - has interesting things about horses in too; premonitions of deaths, incidences like Caroline G recounted, awareness of when owner is starting from home (this has been double blind tested with dogs - the ones who can do it know when the owner *decides* to come home - collies are supposed to be especially good at this, but also horses - .. We have a cat that often greets DH coming home - his home coming is variable - There was an article in the Indy (I think) this week about how sheep can recognise other sheep, and remember individuals for up to two years, and also recognise a certain number of people too (and remember them). I think animals are fascinating... Caro
Guest guest
Horses can recognise smells of people, like ffor example, my perfume, and can smell it up to a mile radius! When my horses lived in a field a few miles away, as soon as we pulled into the road the feild was on, we could see Zen start to canter towards the gate, and he couldnt have seen us. He recognized the engine noise of my DH's van. Once or twice we went up in my car, and he stayed put, didnt even look up! They are so amazing, we dont give them enough credit really. My DH thinks that Black Jack waited for his death, and timed it to cause me the least distress. He died whilst I was on holiday from my job, so I had time to grieve, did it in the night so I didnt have to see him, If he had waited another day, it would have been my DS's naming day. He aslo did it at a time when I had a lot of distraction, which helped, and before the winter got too bad, and we didnt have to watch him suffer. My DH is a bit soppy, he thinks the fact BJ went down hill after we met, was becuase he waited until I was finally happy b4 letting go. I had a bad few years before I met my DH, and BJ was my shoulder to cry on. Maybe there is some truth in it, its doubtful, but would be nice! It sounds as though BJ has left you in very good hands! Ruth

However, dont let him hear that, my mum has already brought him a t-shirt with " Mr Perfect " on it...not bad coming from your MIL!!

My horses responded a bit to it, but more to the carrot I had poking out my pocket ) Naming ceremony was great, though I dont feel like I talked to anyone, just wandered about trying to make decisions about what I should be doing (pregnancy has large part to play in this!). Feel a bit sick, threw up yesterday, but not too bad today, condsidering I have just eaten a milkybar pudding AND a tirimusu!! Anyway, bought a self polenating apple tree today (didnt know it was such a bloody ordeal to grow a tree!) to plant next to Blackjack, and some bulbs to plant on his grave. Got to dig a large hole tommoroow so hope the weather is ok...no frost! Have a fab weekend,
