Guest guest
Of course you can't send DH out to buy Jewish bread on Saturdays Akiko ) Creme de la Creme in Bridge Lane Golders Green is as close to a genuine French patisserie as you are going to get. It's run by French people and their baguettes and petit pains are wonderful. And, like the real thing, once they've sold out for the day, which is usually by 12 noon, that's it. Also they sell gorgeous pastries and mousse cakes. Flying home today, a tad nervous as usual, maybe a bit more so. I know you don't *have* to comment on any posting, and I am not whining *REALLY* !!!! but I did put a lot of thought and care into the description of our feelings having visited Ground Zero, and I only had one (offlist) comment about it. Is everyone still miffed at me for being ghoulish? It was an extremely moving experience, one I am unlikely to forget and being ghoulish was the last thing on my mind in that strange, eerie atmosphere. Guest guest
I thought your posting about your visit to Ground Zero was very sensitive, Ruthie, but I did not respond as I read it quite late just before I was off to bed. Hope the flight home is OK and you're not too nervous! Guest guest
Have a good, safe journey home Ruthie! I did sit down to reply to your Ground Zero message yesterday but didn't know what to say. I know that if I was in NYC, I'd go to pay my respects as well. I thought your message was very moving and brought it home to me how many people died. Strangely, I read your message shortly before going to bed and then had dreams of the WTC disaster - I was there in the dream and it wasn't nice. On another note, I know that news of the aircrash on Monday reported that there were 246 people on board plus crew. I read last night that in addition there were 5 unticketed infants sitting on parents laps, which upset me terribly. I flew only last week with my baby on my lap............ It's good to have such a sensitive report to read - I am never likely to go anywhere near America, so all I have to go on are newspaper reports. Your report was thought- provoking and upsetting, but that doesn't mean I like you any the less for it - on the contrary, it was extremely brave of you to report back at all Do hope your flight was safe, and welcome back! Guest guest
Thanks to all of you. I *hoped* it came across as sensitive, but one never knows, does one? You won't believe where I am emailing from... the BA economy class waiting area in JFK, has a laptop connection centre which is free for local access, offering power and phone points. As I have a free NY dialup account set up by a friend, I am able to access the net from here Cool, no? HUGS to all. Ruthie > No - neither am I Ruthie. Guest guest
Not wanting to state the obvious or anything, but if you thought people were going to be miffed at you for your post, you really shouldn't have sent it. Safe to say that if anyone had been miffed they would have totally ignored you, sent you a private email or in extreme cases unsubscribed from the list - not everyone likes to post this sort of stuff to the list, but to deal with it in a more appropriate manner. And there's absolutely no need to assume that " everyone " is miffed at you; I don't know what gives you this impression. Have a safe trip home. J -----Original Message----- From: ruthie@... Guest guest
Not at all - at least, not here anyway. I found your description superb (wrong word, but can't think of a better one) - I could have been there - made me shiver, but there was nothing I could add.
