Guest guest
Jenni, not much help, but NTL are worse than useless. And as for Customer Service - it doesn't exist. We're just trying to change all our services to get away from them, although we can't find a better alternative to our 24/7 high speed cable modem access so will have to stick with them for that. Guest guest
Mine disconnects after 10 if its not being used (eg if I'm reading emails), but there's an option somewhere I can change that. Does yours disconnect while it's in use then? What a pain! But no it can't be ... I used to leave it connected and then go back to check my emails no problem this only started happening after I down loaded that useless piece of junk called Yahoo Messenger (which I've now deleted as pooter kept crashing with that on!). Do you know where the settings are for automatic disconnection etc.? In hope ... Jenni

Guest guest
Jenni I'm sure there must be an easier way to get to this option (but I haven't found it). So... From outlook express (I think this is where it might fall down - I seem to remember you use AOL) Choose Tools, then Options, then select Connections tab. Under Internet connection settings, choose the box " Change " Highlight the ISP, then click on " Settings " In the Dial Up Settings bit in the bottom section, click on the " Advanced " box Then you get some tick boxes, with one being Disconnect if idle for XX minutes, where you chose the minutes. Mine is ticked with 10 mins, so every 10mins, I get a reminder box asking if I want to disconnect. Guest guest
ntl also disconnect you (rather than your PC disconnecting form them IYSWIM) if connection is idle for more than xx minutes (is it 4? or more than that) I get round this by having OE automatically check email every three minutes. I had NTL probs the other night though -it kept dropping the connection.... seemed to be a temp glitch though _________________ Angi 0:-) > Then you get some tick boxes, with one being Disconnect if idle for XX > minutes, where you chose the minutes. Guest guest
Freeserve kept dropping my connection the other day too, I think it's just something that happens occasionally and there's not much we can do about it. Bl**dy annoying though. Aha my perseverance paid off found the connections stuff - the disconnect after 10 mins is *not* ticked - poo!! Any other ideas? Fingers crossed. ooooooh that was weird it just checked my mail, I've always done it manually before, feels like having a ghost with me!! > I had NTL probs the other night though -it kept dropping the > connection.... seemed to be a temp glitch though perhaps that could be it I know I went through a run of having to dial up 5 times before getting connected. But this has been happening for 3+ days now In hope ... Jenni
