Thanks! -- POSITION DESCRIPTION FARMWORKER JUSTICE (FJ) POSITION: Capacity Building Coordinator Poder Sano Rural Health Project LOCATION: Washington, DC SUMMARY As a team member of FJ's Poder Sano Rural Health Project, the Capacity Building Coordinator (CBC) will, working in close coordination and consultation with the Project Director, function as technical and programmatic support related to all community-level training activities. Poder Sano is a capacity building assistance project to help organizations mobilize rural Latino communities around the prevention of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis. The CBC will identify and assess capacity building and training needs; plan, organize, schedule, and implement training, capacity-building, and community mobilization activities; and contribute to all other project deliverables, ensuring quality performance and implementing quality-control programs specific to each task/activity. In addition, the CBC is responsible for developing tailored procedures, guidelines, and instructions; anticipating the challenges that may be encountered in carrying activities and crafting solutions; and developing and monitoring individual activities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Technical Assistance and Training – Provides leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of capacity building and training initiatives that support community-based efforts to reduce and eliminate HIV/AIDS among rural Latino communities. Focus of the work can include: needs assessments and situational analysis, behavior change communication strategies, participatory training and capacity-building techniques, coordination and administration of webinars, and dissemination of results through public/professional venues and publications. Some trainings and presentations are delivered in Spanish. • Project Administration Support – To include supporting the development and updating contracts with consultants, administering requests for payments, logistical coordination of project-related activities and events, and maintaining relevant project-related files. • Materials Development – Responsible for developing project-related documents, including: training curricula, conference abstracts and presentations, newsletter articles, content for the FJ web site, quarterly reports to funders, and other materials as required. • Reporting – Supports the Project Director in preparing progress reports and financial reports. Additionally, the CBC prepares a monthly project activities update report for the Project Director. • Serves as a spokesperson for the project and FJ at external and internal meetings, conferences, and trainings. • Professional Development – Participates in formal and informal training and continuing education activities that will ensure that the Capacity Building Coordinator acquires and maintains high quality and state-of-the-art professional and technical capabilities in public health and other disciplines related to the work of FJ. • Contributes to the development of FJ and fulfilling its mission, participating in staff activities, special events, Board of Directors meetings, etc. • Other duties and responsibilities as required. QUALIFICATIONS • Master's degree in a health-related field, equivalent education or experience. • Knowledge of public health strategies, HIV/AIDS and sexual health, health disparities, and health education. Experience working with promotores de salud (community health workers) or farmworker health initiatives is a plus. • Demonstrated training skills, with experience delivering trainings to both professionals and community members. • Experience in the design and application of qualitative research and/or other participatory community-based research/evaluation methodologies. • Experience working with community-based organizations, particularly those serving rural or Latino communities. • Ability to work as a team member and to travel domestically (15%). • Excellent communication and public-speaking skills. • Advanced Spanish and English (written and oral).
