Guest guest
Since I'm sitting here anyway, perhaps you can help me with this one (when you've all woken up). I'm trying to find a date for a Christmas drinks do (neighbours and friends etc) and as usual nearly all the slots before Christmas are " taken " (we're a bit slow). So was wondering about 27th instead. Question is - is this traditionally or typically a day spent with the family? I thought perhaps people might have done their families on the 25th and 26th and would be ready for an informal drink on 27th? (Disregarding those who have travelled somewhere of course). What do you all think? Along the same lines was wondering if the 27th has any particular significance in the Jewish and Muslim faiths (some of our friends) that would make them not want to attend a drinks do. Guest guest
Well I was deleting my mails and this caught my eye 27th December is my birthday - so we *always* have people for drinks that day ) Some do refuse - but not everyone you invite is going to be able to make it whatever date you choose - but we usually get a pretty good turnout ) Vicki
Guest guest
IMHO the 'after Christmas' period is a bit slack - before Xmas, everyone is busy with shopping if nothing else, so it is great to have something to look fwd to btween Xmas & new yr! We used to get good attandance at the tea group 'do' around that date. I am sure if yuo fix a date, some will come, some won`t! Bear in mind that it is a working day though :-( So if you are inviting people with children, where 1 has to work, you would get the SAH person plus children. Guest guest
I was sort of wondering whether this was a conversational solliloquoy (whatever) or a general invitation to the list?! How big *is* your house?! And was it 1966? Guest guest
Caro - I think you're asking Vicki really... but it reminded me to say thanks to everyone who answered to my 27th Dec query - I think we'll try it. I wasn't planning to invite the whole list actually (though can't speak for Vicki!!)...but if anyone is stuck for anything to do... I guess between us we might be able to fit you all in...!! Mind you, I'll do rsvp beforehand, so if it looks like noone's coming you might all have to come and rescue us and help us drink all the " gløgg " . I'm born in December 1966... my birthday is the 2nd though!
