Guest guest
Am flying off to Tenerife tomorrow (just for four days - without my babies - GULP!) and wondered what was at Gatwick duty free shopping nowadays. Also, is there such a thing as duty free now or do you have to pay VAT on anything? Francesca (already planning how to spend more money....!) I'm afraid you aren't entitled to any duty free as you are flying within the EU. There is a shopping area for EU flights but the prices aren't much better than a good supermarket. Also the same applies when you return ie no duty free at Tenerife. Akiko

Well Akiko answered your duty free questions, but I am wishing you a *great* holiday...lucky thing! Sun and sea at this time of year! Ruthie. Guest guest
No Trisha, not home alone but with their grandparents - bit tearful tonight as it will be the longest I have ever been away from them. Until mid-October we had not had a single night apart (other than the night DD2 born when I put DD1 to bed and was back by teatime the following day). Am desperately trying to reassure myself that if any unhinged terrorists are out there, they would hardly target a flight to Tenerife but nonetheless have still had our wills done and looked out our life insurance documentation!! (Pessimism is my middle name). I know the kids will have a lovely time as their grandma dotes on them (sold it to DD1 by telling her that grandma does not get stressy and shout like mummy does!). Thanks for your good wishes! Guest guest
Thanks Akiko, that's a bummer as thought could get my Xmas present and stock up on make-up, perfume. Oh well! Guest guest
Thanks Ruthie, I'm sure I will have a lovely time but am a bit worried about leaving my babies who will probably be so busy being spoilt by their grandma they won't even notice that I've gone .... Guest guest
That's just what I was like when we went up to Aberdeen at half term, desperately trying to convince myself that they couldn't possibly have any interest in an easyJet flight to Scotland!!! and what would I do if there were any shifty looking blokes at check-in..... Terrible really, but I couldn't help it. I know you're not going with the girls, but it did help me to see how enthusiastic my boys were, how much they were looking forward to the flight, how carefree they were, with no preconceived worries or anticipation at all, so I tried to see it all through their eyes. Hope you have a safe and pleasant journey ;o)) Hannah Re: Anyone been to Gatwick recently? As a Grandma. When Tammy left her 3 older kids with me and went away for four days, they had such a good time, they were BEGGING her to go away again almost as soon as she came back!!! LOL isn;t that the truth... our two spent a w/e with M & D two weeks ago..we were going to go away but stayed at home alone instead! Looxury! When we picked the girls up Georgi wanted to know when she was coming back to Granny's again. The other night she even asked if we were going out?, no we said not tonight. " awww, but I want someone else to come & look after us tonight " was the confidence boosting reply!! They quite often answertheir toy phones and tell me it's Granny asking them to go and say " right now " I'd be worried -but I know for a factthat shetakes no nonsense and doesn;t spoil them (other than not being so busy & stressed as me!!) Have a good trip Francesca and DON'T WORRY!! Angi

We get the same thing with Steffi refused to come home after we'd left her overnight after the ball - wanted to stay two nights with my mum. And she'd rather spend her weekends with the 18yo across the road. Mind you, now I'm not around in the evenings when she comes home from work, I definitely get more attention from her than when I was around all the time. And DH thinks it's great that she more often says 'Dad, I mean Mum...' when it was always 'Mum, I mean Dad...' before. -- Sue Mum to Steffi the Pomwi, nearly
Guest guest
Sue ... I only want to point out, *gently*, that 5 year olds are not allowed to work in this country! I even thought Australia was a little more liberated in this area....
