Pseudomonas Later in Life

Hi All

I was wondering...Ive noticed something that I don't know if anyone has

before or not. It seems that those CF patients who aquire Pseudomonas later in

life

25+ seem to have a quicker downward decline in lung function than those who

aquire in when they are younger...Teens years or younger. I know for instance

all of my friends who have developed pseudo later in life have declined

quickly. Where as quite a few who have developed it as babies and kids and teens

seem

to have a more gradual decline.

For instance, my husband who has had pseudomonas since he was 2 months old

( his first throat culture and the reason they sweat tested him even though

he had miconium ilius) has had little to no real problem with it. He is a

Double F508.

He did aquire MRSA from his dad when his dad was on a vent before he did in

the ICU after a massive stroke. Now that has caused ALL of his downward spiral

and problems although his is still considered to have Moderate to Mild CF.

Now, one friend ( I have several who this has happpened too) was healthy

until her mid 20's when she first cultured aspergillus. She had only had asthma

type problems before that. When she was 34 he first cultured Pseudo and within a

few months her lungs were completely eaten up by it. Now why does it seem that

people who get it later seem to fair worse quicker?

IS there any reason for this? Is it because even though they PA was not there

before hand the lungs were just so weak that the PA took hold and rampaged

through them? Where as a youngsters lungs would kind of get used to the

inflammation of the Pseudo..does this make sense?

Now I know this isn't always true but I have seen a pattern here.
