Guest guest
, It does appear that the signs of malabsorption are evident in the hair and nails very early. I also have the deep ridges in my nails, thick ridges that go from cuticle to tip. I checked with a professional, and yes, it was a sign of malabsorption. I had the extreme hair loss also, it fell out in clumps, so much so that it would clog the drain in the shower. I will say, though, that since I was diagnosed with hypothyroid, and put on Synthroid, all the hair problems have resolved. It looks wonderful now and I see only normal hair loss. The loss of muscle tone and with skin hanging on my arms and legs always alerts me that the problem is worsening. It's my sign that I've got to start inhaling high calories, and fortunately I love food and can eat a lot except those times that I'm recovering from an attack (like now!), but even with eating a 2,500+ calorie a day diet, I still don't gain. An increase of a pound or two takes months, when with a normal person they could do it in days. My doctor explained that the malabsorption problem is not something that one can easily correct. He said that even though persons with malabsorption can eventually gain, and do, they very easily lose it all again, it just goes in a cycle. And since this is the third time in two years that I've fought this battle, I have to believe him. I keep three sizes of clothing in my closet 0-1's, 2's and 4's, and go up and down between the three. Pre-CP, I was a size 6, but there's nothing in there anymore in that size!! Have to agree with you about the dog, too. Our 14 year old lab, Zeke, who is now almost completely blind, will not eat anything green. Don't know how he can even TELL it's green, but he'll spit it out if it is. Hope you're having a good day! With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep. Guest guest
, have you thought about taking iron pills for the loss of iron ? (I'm anemic and my doctor prescribed them for me, even though they are over the counter) Also, for the hair and nails, have you thought about taking gelatin capsules? I do and it helps my hair a lot. I don't have much, so I can't afford to lose any. My hair is colored because it's about 1/2 gray already and I'm only 33. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
