Guest guest
Hoping someone out there remembers us and can answer a question for me! I've kinda been on a hiatus lately and been on no-mail. Yesterday we took Josh to Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital to have yet another sweat test done. After 5 tries in the past 8 months, this time it finally worked and he produced enough sweat! The tech who did the test said he would have the results before the end of the day and send them to my doctor, that he would know before we even got home (we live in Erie, which is 2 hours away.) We got home around 5 and I rushed to listen to my messages. Nothing! So today I wait at work until 10:00 (the office opens at 8) before I call them. The receptionist said, yes they did have the results, doctor would call when he interpreted them. At 2:00, still no call. Now I am very frustrated. I started thinking maybe the doctor doesnt know how to read the results, but then I went online and found the numbers within minutes: <40 --> ok -40-70 --> borderline >70 --> diagnostic of CF When I called back at 2:15, the lady was then down right nasty with me. She said I TOLD you we would call as soon as we interpret them. Now I know we've had to wait this long... Josh is now 9 months, but it isnt like we're talking about the chicken pox here. Come one, cant someone PLEASE give me the results! The receptionist even went as far as to tell me to call Pittsburgh myself! HA! So I tried.... Where do I start?... I dont know who to contact. Which lab to call? I tried calling Fast Track with no luck. Would they even give them to me to begin with? Sorry for the rant, just venting here..... Thanks for listening! n
Guest guest
You have every right to be upset. When my daughter had her sweat test done, we knew within an hour what her results were. I would be sure to let the doc know that you are upset with how you were treated and the fact that you feel that they are brushing you off. When it comes to your kids and especially CF, you need to know, either for peace of mind or beginning treatments asap. I hope the results are neg. Good luck in getting the results from your doc. Guest guest
I cant tell you how to get them faster .BUT I would sure tell the doc the tone of voice & words that were said to me .AND I would also call the radiology dept & ask for the supervisor/top dog. whatever . & tell that person how I was spoken to. REMIND them you are the parent asking about a result that is highly catrostopic in nature & are upset & stressed as it is & didn't need " smart mouth " from a tech/nurse or anyone for that matter........ See .I am a real " B " when it comes to my kids / grandkids sooo they never mess with me either. Sooooo you need to know as soon as possible " JUST BECAUSE " . I sure hope you hear soon. Bless your heart .your in my prayers -all of you LOVE & HUGS, GrandmoMBEV Sweat Test Results Hoping someone out there remembers us and can answer a question for me! Guest guest
If they were not able to do the test after 8 months of trying because he wouldn't produce enough sweat, why on earth didn't they just draw blood and DNA type it?? You have every right to be frustrated!! When they suspected my daughter had CF they did a test around noon and I had results back with 3 hours. When we were referred on to a CF doc they did another test just to confirm the first one was correct. Once again we had results within a few hours. At the same time they drew blood and sent it away, to PA I beleive,to be analysed and we had you genotype back within a week! What you are experiencing is not acceptable or professional behavior. You have every right to be upset! Wendi mom to Peyton 3 wcf > Hoping someone out there remembers us and can answer a question for > me! Guest guest
Hi n, First let me say that when you get the results I hope they are negative. When my daughter was sweat tested it was in the afternoon and the tech who did the test told me that the doc would have the results by the end of the day or by the morning. When I called that afternoon before the docs left the office the results hadn't been sent over yet but we had an appointment for the next morning and they had them by the time we got there. You have every reason to be upset, but I also know that the docs don't like to give bad news out over the phone so maybe they want to see you and explain things? I don't know. Absolutely let the doc AND the person you spoke to on the phone know that you didn't appreciate the attitude and nastiness. Tell them that if it happens again you will not return to the office-you will find a doc who's staff appreciates your concerns. Good Luck, Sweat Test Results Hoping someone out there remembers us and can answer a question for me! I've kinda been on a hiatus lately and been on no-mail. Guest guest
n, How frustrating for you! The intermediate range for the sweat test is 40 to 60, not 40 to 70. Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who replied to my request!!!! I've been on the phone all morning with Pittsburgh and just got off the phone with my doctor's office. They said the results came back negative. This is what they said: Right Arm: sodium 16, chloride 6 Left arm: sodium 19, chloride 6 Whatever that means. I expected one whole number... I guess I am very relieved! Just a bit upset with my PCP and will probably start checking for a new one... Anyway - THANKS_AGAIN to everyone for the advice and support! n
