Guest guest
I am glad that you and your physicians have been so thorough. So many people blindly do what ever a MD will tell them. I am not sure if you knew but I am a RN in a major teaching hospital. I used to work on an ONC floor; very difficult on the heart. I then went into recovery, post procedural care; pts after surgery and ercp's and the like. Now I strickly do pre operative prep on all pts having surgery. Even though I do work on all pts I have worked with GI surgeons specifically as it has been an interest of mine for many years even before I had panc problems. Unfortuntely I have seen many pts with cancer or will know after the case if it is or not and it is very stressful for them and their families to say the least. I do a lot of hand holding and tend to spend more time with families then with the pts; I like the teaching aspect. You can not imagine how many people come in and are completely clueless as to what is going to happen. They roll off to the OR and the surgeon did not even have the decency to pop in prior to that. Actually there are a few surgeons, whom I respect, who ALWAYS see their pts before they roll. Makes a huge difference in how the pts and their families feel. Knowledge is power and power is control; when people loose control and power over their lives it can be a tremedous physiological stressor. Stress is not a favorable environment for healing. Look at me; I have been away from work too long and have jumped on one of my soap boxes. I am so glad that you and your MD's have an open line of communication. Please let me know how your doing. I have had a good day today and am feeling a lot better. Warmly
