No , it is not your fault.

Please, please do not think this. People do not fall sick because

they are being punished. Everyone, the sick and the healthy, has

made mistakes and has regrets. In any case, babies and small

children often suffer terrible pain and illness which is quite

clearly not merited. There is no link.

You are helping us now .

After months of fear, anxiety and guilt (about having possibly

passed on these defective genes to my sons....I have hereditary

pancreatitis), I have finally reached a sort of equilibrium. A new

calm has enveloped me. I have accepted that I now either live with

the pain and risks of my present condition or have the surgery. For

me personally, prayer helped. No doubt time has played its part in

helping me to adjust to my new knowledge about the cause of my

worsening symptoms. But a very large part of the help I needed has

come from people like you, , so please don't feel

negatively about yourself. What a way you have found to use your

professional knowledge and skills.....and your humour!

It's normal to feel depressed at times about pain and illness,

especially if things haven't gone so well lately. We can feel sad,

angry, dismayed, rebellious, hopeless and even envious of others who

appear more fortunate than ourselves.

Sometimes we're fortunate and can turn our bad experience to good by

refocusing on what is really important in life, our relationships,

and even rediscovering joy in so many things that we used to take

for granted. If that happens and we can be more positive and loving

than ever, it's great; it's a gift. If we're too ill to be able to

do that for a time, that's OK too; we mustn't feel guilty.

Our own fault? Absolutely not. Definitely not yours, !

Best wishes and good thoughts,

Fliss
