Guest guest
Myrna, You really are blessed that you had a good doctor who was able recognize the correct treatment, waited until the psuedocyst matured, and then got right in there and drained it. Some of the rest of us are just not as fortunate. It's all conditional, though, on the status of the pseudocyst and it's location, as to what they can do and when. Sometimes a procedure like yours isn't an option, and doctors have to recommend other treatment. To let the pseudocyst resolve on it's own seems to be the conservative approach taken by many doctors, and this often works well. The only negative part about drainage is that the pseudocyst(s) often refill again, and then the pain returns. It's an ongoing problem that many of us have to deal with! You are really fortunate that yours seems to be gone for good. My pseudocysts are 6+ cm. and 4+ cm. now, and I'm getting so sick and tired of the pain, but I have a very compassionate and understanding doctor that makes sure that I have plenty of medication. He knows how horrible the pain can be. He just returned from the American Gastroenterology Symposium last month, and they must have had a lot of discussion about treating the pain, because I noticed a significant change in his attitude about the pain medications. He also gave my husband a long explanation describing how debilitating the pain could be, so that helped him to understand it better. So what Scot is having to go through right now is just unbelievable! His doctor sounds as though he is very cold and unsympathetic. I am praying so hard that he gets this problem straightened out with his GI today, or gets another one that will help him. I can't imagine dealing with the pain without the benefit of the meds. I'm so glad that you don't have to worry about pseudocysts anymore. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep. PAI, Intl.
