Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could keep food cold for 32 hours?

Between our hotel stay and the air travel I need to keep foods cold for that

long if possible. I would like to pack bacon, Applegate hotdogs and Applegate

lunchmeat for my son for our vacation.

Thanks

When I ordered from Applegate farms (via their online site) in the

past, they would take 2 days to ship to me. Items were packed in a

styrofoam container with ice packs and were still icy cold when they

arrived at my door.

Maybe you could freeze solid the items to be used first then put them

in the cooler w/ ice blocks right before departure. If the hotel room

has a fridge or freezer for the deli items plus ice blocks you could

put them in upon arrival. In our limited travel experience w/ kids w/

special diet, we found hotels will usually throw a mini fridge in for

a small fee if not included in the room.

Just some ideas- may or may not work!

Have a good trip,

Freeze your foods in half-full ziploc freezer bags, stacked like

bricks in the freezer. Skip the extra ice, if you pack these

together they will stay cold in a soft-sided cooler a long time.

Take a bunch of extra ziploc bags to fill with ice if you need it,

you can get ice cubes at any soday machine. Take your food on the

plane with you in a carry-on bag, you do NOT want to risk losing

your food in lost luggage (happened to me once). Take a separate bag

of foods with meals to eat on the trip. During travel, I take as

much finger-food as possible - veggie chips, nuts, fruit. For

cooked meals, I usually pack everything in ziplocs and then take one

tupperware bowl to transfer food into to eat, and wash it afterwards

to re-use. It can help to take a few disposable plastic tubs that

you don't mind tossing when dirty. I take a couple of plastic forks

and spoons I carry sea salt in a small ziploc, and lemon juice and

salad dressing in small baby bottles. You'll need a kitchen at your

hotel when you arrive.

I've traveled for up to 4 days carrying every bite of my food. More

than that is hard to carry on a plane, and I would need to locate

stores and cook at my hotel.
