Hi all,

This question is for those who have developed diabetes. My sugar went to 556

and then crashed to below 49 and no matter what I try to eat or drink it

will not come up to a safe level. My question has anyone else had this

problem and if not any ideas what is going on… my family is frantic. I have

had no insulin in 36 hours and took my normal dose. I am a long term

diabetic and have never seen this before.

MY pain has increased staying no less than a seven and I go as along as 2

weeks between bowel movement and just had once about the time this started.

Thanks,

Michele

Hi All and thank you for your input. The sugar drop was over night at 3 am I

was 556 and at 9 am I was 36 and stayed low for 3 days and am now back to

the 250-300 range and that is normal for me. I took no insulin at the 556

level because at 11 pm I had taken my regular night time of 64n and r on my

sliding scale. I drink tons of water and have been taking stool softeners

and drinking a glass of medimical my doctor says it is the pain killers I

have 100 mg duragesic patches and that 4 mg of Daludid 4 times a day. My

pain never lets up and I am thankful I have a supportive doctor and family.

I also vomit 4 to 5 times a day and am taking 3 different drugs for that and

it has become more intermittent.

Thanks again,

Michele

Michele. You know that if your blood sugars stay at the 250 to 300 range

over a period of time that you are going to have a lot worse problems than

you are having now including kidney disease, blindness, the possiblility of

losing a limb, Heart disease, just to name a few. I hope that you can get

that under control very soon. If I can help you in any way, please let me

know.

I hope this finds you and yours well

every Monday and Thursday to adjust my dosage I already have kidney problems

and nerve damage to go with my Pancreatitis.

Michele. Maybe you should look at the South Beach Diet. It eats foods that

are low on the glycemic index. Those are the types of foods that take

longer for the carbs to rise your blood sugar. Sounds like you have become

insulin resistant. It is time to change that trend. Doing the south beach

diet for 2 weeks will change that insulin resistance. It is worth a shot

anyway. I have cut my insulin in half by doing the diet. If I can help you

in any way, please let me know. btw, you can find the South Beach Diet at

your local book store.

I hope this finds you and yours well

Michele,

WOW.......A blood glucose reading of 250-300 is normal for you? Heavens,

Michele, that is extremely high and if you are running BG levels in that range

on a regular basis you are at severe risk for serious diabetes complications!

You say it is " normal " for you, but it's not normal at all. It's tremendously

high.

Do you see an Endocrinologist, and is he/she aware of these terribly high

readings?

To avoid future diabetic complications, you should be aiming for a BG level

between 90 - 110. With the right insulin, the correct meal time dosing

schedule and proper diet and exercise, appropriate BG levels in the range I

mentioned can be achieved. You say you have a supportive doctor, yet I

cannot imagine a physician that would accept these levels, without making

the appropriate changes to your insulin type and dosing so that you can

reach acceptable, healthy and safe blood glucose levels on a regular basis.

If you have been running extremely high levels like this for a long time,

getting

down to within normal range will make you feel really odd initially, but this is

only because your body is accustomed to being high. Once the blood

glucose is within normal ranges after a few days, you will start feeling

tremendously better.

I'm just in shock, and don't know what else to say, except that in my personal

opinion, I think you need some serious counseling from an Endocrinologist

and a certified diabetic educator who can get you on track with your diabetes

health. A doctor that condones these BG levels has no business working with

a diabetic. If you don't get that under better control, you are at serious risk

and that could easily snowball into some serious, irrevocable problems in the

future.

Let me know if there's any way I can help.

With hope and prayers,

Oh I do fully understand how serious this is. Last year I had DKA and went

to 1.594. That is why my doctor and I make adjustments twice a week. I have

been through the diabetes education as well as working with the diabetes

association. That’s why I ask for help because I do know.

Thanks,

Michele
