Guest guest
Hi All, I've been reading the posts on the pft test and was wondering why my clinic hasn't requested that my son have this done. Is there a reason why some do and some don't? Do you have to be " sick " to have it done? I live in the Toronto area, we go to Sick Kids for our clinics. I didn't even know about this procedure until I read your posts. Guest guest
I know that they won't do the test if the kids are sick. I just think that our clinic wanted to have ht etest done just to have a baseline to judge future tests by. Guest guest
I'm not sure why some recommend doing this test and some don't. I do know this test has not been around for very long. I also know you do not have to be " sick " to have it done. My daughter does not have any respiratory issues yet but they wanted to get a baseline. The child has to be at least 6 months old too. You may want to ask at your next clinic visit. Maybe they do not have the test available there???? Guest guest
There basically isn't a basic standard that they can mesure the results by. (or at least not two years ago for Patti) They can make a baseline out of her own numbers and then compare later numbers to that. My understanding though was that this could get a bit misleading as the lungs grow and change as they get older causing the numbers to change as well. This is why our clinic won't do it unless you push for it. Guest guest
Different clinics do different things I guess. didn't start until she was three and most of the kids at CHOP's CF clinic don't start until they are 5 or 6. Don't worry too much. Infant PFT test Hi All, I've been reading the posts on the pft test and was wondering why my clinic hasn't requested that my son have this done. Guest guest
, We did a baseline infant PFT on Jack before he was 1 and have never done one again. It is hard when they are infants. Guest guest
Was that your choice not to do any more or your doctor's recommendation?...just curious. When you say it is hard when they are infants, do you mean on them? I thought the preparation was a challenge but I didn't really feel it was hard on my daughter. I guess I was expecting the whole thing to be a lot scarier than it was. I actually have a harder time watching them draw blood and give her shots than I did with this.
