Guest guest
Hello all, I certainly hope Thanksgiving went wonderfully for everyone. I do have a question regarding nausea. This seems to be happening more frequently to me. I have pain, nearly everyday. No surprise there. Sometimes it is horendous and lasts for only a few minutes and passes and other times it stays for an hour or so before it passes or I take a pain pill. But lately I seem to be getting nauseated alot. So bad that even throwing up doesn't seem to make me feel better. I was sleeping last night when the nausea woke me. I just wanted to die I felt so horrible. No pain!!! Not one bit! Just extreme nausea. Does this happen to anyone else? I have the nausea and pain when I usally have to head for the ER, but I haven't had to do that for 2 1/2 years now, well, that wasn't surgery induced anyway. And what is the longest time anyone else has gone without having to go to the ER or stay in the hospital because of an attack or uncontroable pain? I know I have been pretty lucky here with the minimal pain (meaning not all day long) and no ER visits for such a long time. But I do have moments where the pain is so sharp it stops me in my tracks and make me breathe so loud and stoop over that anyone around me knows something is wrong. But then, it will fade away within minutes to an hour or so. Does this mean behavior mean anything to anyone? Has anyone else out there had it? FYI, I have moderate-severe Chronic with SOD. I have calcifications within the head of the pancreas and severe strictures there too. Most of the day when I hurt it is on my right side of the pancreas, but upon waking in the morning, the pain is most noticably (sp) on the left side of the pancreas when I take my shower. Hurts for the water to run on it. But this pain is on and off throughout the day and evening. Maybe I have just been in a " remission of sorts " and now I am coming out of it. I don't know. I don't have a specialist or GI at the moment so your input is very much appreciated. Just in case it matters, I didn't do badly with food yesterday at all. I pretty much stuck to my low fat diet, ate a small meal and spent the day with my son and husband, so there was no stress from family members or other outside influeneces to induce a stress attack. Thanks so much, Sandy Fairfield, California
Guest guest
--- Sandy, You have just described my life. Pain and nausea are a daily event for me. I can stay out of the ER with my pain meds, and compazine for the nausea. If that doesn't work I take Zofran (very expensive, ins. will only pay for 10 at a time) or phengran suppositorries(sp). If all of this fails I head to my internist (whom is my primary for CP, he is VERY knowledgable and compassionate) and he will give me an injection of Zofran and phenegran. So far this kept from going into the hospital. I also have the rt. side pain most of the time but the left side of back hurts really bad if I stay laying down long. I have two small children so I will do ANYTHING to stay out of the hosp. I hope this helps for you, it has worked for me so far. Guest guest
How odd I havent had to go to the ER for 2 and a half years either. I used to be there often. My family doctor treats me as an out paitent in his office or at home when I get really bad now and that cuts down on ER visits. from Canada
Guest guest
Sandy, oh yeah, I get that nausea quite often. My doctor has given me an antinausea pill to take when that happens. I take Reglan because phenergan doesn't work for me at all. Sometimes I get just the nausea and other times I get it with the pain. It varies from day to day. I also have resorted to aromatherapy to help with the nausea as well since it can take up to 30 minutes for the pill to take effect. I found an aromatherapist who made me a batch of stuff she usually gives to pregnant women, with a different oil base than she normall uses. She usually uses wheat germ oil, but I don't like that smell, so she used sweet almond oil from mine an it works wonderfully. It's used as an inhalant (pour a little on a napikin and inhale), works great for me. I get a small bottle for $5 and it lasts me over a year. I occasionally have sharp pains on top of the constant dull ache. yeah you might be moving from a period of not much pancreatic pain to one with more pain. If it continues to happen so frequently, I'd see about getting a new PCP and GI as soon as you can. I think the longest I've ever gone without much pancreatic activity is 4 years, and that was in the beginning after my very first attack and another 4/5 year break after a major surgery to try and repair my pancreas divisum, though looking back now, I did have some warning signs of activity during these times, just didn't have the pain. ie. had diahrrea, vomiting for no reason, etc. I hope this has been of some help to you.
