Guest guest
You buy raw almonds and " blanch " them by dropping them into boiling water for a minute or so, then draining them. I then lay them out on a towell to further dry and cool. You then slip the skins off... kind of labor intensive but the kids can help.... one at a time, by just pinching them. Some people make almond milk without removing the skins, but I like it to turn out really white.... no brown bits. Anyway, then... you put them in the blender with water. I do one part almonds to four parts water. Whir until well blended.... then strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth (a couple of layers). You want to really get the gritty nut particles out at first... they are too hard to digest). Then, you can add honey and vanilla, if desired. Keep in mind that almond milk is not used in the " intro " diet... and generally shouldn't be used in large quantities in the very beginning stages of SCD.
