Hi.... They don't have to be " semi-rotten " . :) Though the stores seem to only

want to put out the green and slightly yellow ones. I've sometimes asked the

produce guys to bring me out some of the ones they just pulled to be thrown

away. They're often just perfect.... not " black " and horrible... but just

well-spotted and SCD-perfect. Then, I ask them to mark them to half price for

me. :)

I have a good example on my kitchen counter at the moment.... I'll send you a

photo off-list. And anyone else who wants a copy of this photo, just e-mail me

privately at: durovchic@... . :)

Bananna Ripe vs. unripe fruits

Does anyone ahve a picure of a sufficiently ripe bananna in its peel?

Is there one somewhere on the internet? What does a sufficiently ripe

banana really look like. I am spending a lot of time going to different

stores looking for semi rotton banannas.

Thank you

I never find ripe bananas. I just buy green ones in various stages

(some yellow, some all green, some yellow green) and put them on my

counter and wait. It seems to work out well, they ripen at different

times. BTVC says they need to have brown spots and no green. I will

admit that once or twice I've had one covered in many brown spots and

a hint of green still at the " stem " end - I used it, it was pretty

ripe. But usually they all ripen nicely, you can speed it up by

putting them in a closed brown bag. I put any extras in the freezer

for bread or smoothies.

Best to you.

I googled " Photos of ripe bananas " and a big page of photos came up but nothing

that

really looked ripe.

Here is the old Chiquita Banana Jingle used in radio commercials: You'll need
