Memory..you sound like a very good mom to me! I have always worried about my 4

kiddos and how much they weigh but not a one of them has a problem! I think it's

because we don't drink pop or Kool-Aid at home.We save sweet drinks for special

treats and occasional dinners out. And we don't have snacks all the time in the

house. When my 4 come to the grocery store with me they may choose ONE special

thing each. If they want a " sugared " cereal then that is it! If they choose

cookies they make them last as long as possible. This started as a budget thing

years ago when I was a stay at home mom. Plus, just having 4 of the critters

makes a difference, too! They can make cookies at home; in fact all of them

cook...even my 7 year old son! But, cooking takes effort and then there's only

so many and they must share what they cook, too! Also, It sounds like your son

is in that pre-pubescent stage where the body stores fat in preparation for

growth. My two oldest have been through that. But, because they exercise alot

and play sports both of them are on the slim side. I sure wouldn't limit your

son's calories...we know where dieting got us, right? One alternative might be

to limit pre-processed sweets or high fat stuff, and offer healthier choices. My

kids love fruit- especially if I cut up different kinds and let them use

toothpicks to eat it! My ten year old is also a runner and I talk to her about

food choices and how they effect her " training " . This may be a good tactic to

take if he questions the healthier food changes. We also started getting a sport

magazine. My three oldest love it and there are always diet training tips from

the pros. I'm not sure how SAGE this advice is but so far so good here at the

Stauffer house! I am excited for you -a real surgery date! Keep me posted...I am

praying for you! Tami Stauffer

NEED SAGE ADVICE

My 9 yr old son is 4'9 " . He weighs 117lbs. I am constantly

obsessing about his weight. I NEVER want him to go through the pain

and humiliation that I have endured my whole life. According to all

the weight charts I look at, he should only weigh around 90 lbs. That

means he is 27 lbs. overweight. Should I put him on a diet? Or do

you all think he will grow out of it? He is very active, he plays

football, swims, and is a runner. (5 minute miles I might add)

(Proud mom!) What do you all think?
