Good to know for Halloween! lol

Not to re-install confusion, but there IS a medical condition that

can result in discoloration of the skin. Jaundice. It usually shows up

in the sclera (whites) of the eyes first, then if unchecked into the

skin. More yellow, not the orange tint of carotene overload.

That IS a liver issue; but it has zero to do with carotene

consumption. Just thinking perhaps that is what the other poster meant.

Carotene " is the red or yellow hydrocarbon pigment that gives carrots their

characteristic

cheery color, and also helps to brighten up egg yolks, sweet potatoes, (illegal)

and a

variety of leafy vegetables. Intemperate carrot consumption will make the

carotene build

up in your bloodstream. Before you know it, your skin will take on a sickly

yellow pallor, a

grisly condition that superficially resembles jaundice. You've got carotenosis,

Fatal cases

are rare, if that's any comfort:

Jaundice is a yellow color in the skin, the mucous membranes, or the eyes. The

yellow

pigment is from bilirubin, a byproduct of old red blood cells.
