Melody,

Go to the local hospital and they have a scale on the loading doc. thats

what i had to do.

I too am new to this, I just found out about it 3 weeks ago. I have sent iin

my packet and am waiting. I called this am and hopefully will have a date

soon.

I am also sarred I weigh 382. But i see on the web site he has done a few

poeple this heavy. All of my weight is not in my stomach. ( Ha... Famouds

last words). I am hoping I can get this over with. i am scarred to death,

but need to plug ahead. I am going to have to pay cash, as my insurance

would take forever to fight, and I have enough fighting eveything else. I am

hoping very agressively to get this done in the next couple of weeks.

Probably dreaming, but some dreams come true. Hope your does.

Keep me posted.

Well, the good news is that you can get those records from the

squirrely, uninformed doc and use them to prove to your insurance

company you have had medically supervised weight loss efforts! That's

one of the things that sometimes keeps people from getting approved.

Anyplace that has a freight scale. Sometimes the hospital has one, but

also

truck freight companies have them.

Now, I don't know if this works or not but another guy on a different

list told me that he bought two regular scales, just alike, and put one

foot on each of them and added the total.

Hey, Melody! I am from Oologah, Oklahoma! I am waiting on insurance approval to

have the MGB. na is the best, isn't she! She also introduced me to the MGB

and gave me lots of info and support. It's good to know there are other okies

interested in this life changing surgery! Glad to help in any way! Tami Stauffer

The journey begins.

I am new to the list and have already found out so much. My name

is Melody and I am from Broken Arrow (tulsa), Ok. I am 28yrs old and know

I weigh over 350lbs but do know exactly how much. I have been think abt

surgery for a while now.

I would have made the move sooner but I had a Dr. that didnt

approve. He had me trying all kinds of things. He sd he wanted to do

other things first then we would talk abt the surgery. After a year of

nothing I had had enough. I told him I wanted the surgery and he sd he

didnt agree. I then called and old Dr. I used to have and loved but had to

leave because the insurance I had at the time didnt cover him (this one does).

I got into the office and told him what I wanted. He promptly

said he had anther patient that he was working w/ that was post-op and

would have her call me. He then sd he wld start on the approval procees

and do whatever it took pre-op. We talked abt all the ins and out,

options, alternatives, and so on. He was wonderful.

I few days later I got a call from his other patient na. She

gave me Dr. R's site and talked for sometime abt what she went thru and why

she chose Dr. R vs the doc here in town. She gave me some hints and

reminders and told me to feel free to call her anytime. She also said she

was more than willing to meet me and my boyfriend to answer any questions

we might have.

I have already started on the packet and will prob have it

together by the end of the month. I am so glad there is this group to help

with the support as well. I am truly amazed how friendly and close you all

seem. I am looking forward to this.

My first question however is this. I know I weight more than

350lbs bcs that is the max of the scale at the Dr's ofc. Does anyone have

any idea where I can go to get a more accurate weight? I have a call into

my Dr for help on this but he has been out of the office and unavailable.

Again, I look forward to getting to know everyone on here and

some day being post op.

Thank you;

Melody

PRE-op (BEFORE surgery), there are several meds and other required

things. These are listed at:

http://www.clos.net/preop_meds.htm

See also:

http://www.clos.net/preoperative_instructions.htm

POST-op (AFTER surgery), there are a lot of meds, and also some

recommended supplements. These are listed at:

http://www.clos.net/dcinstructions.htm

It definitely pays to sit on the http://www.clos.net website and click

on EVERYTHING there and read it a few times (plus the patient manual).

Kind regards,

It's one of the new POST-op supplements. Really. Dr. R. posted it in a

message. It may not be on the website yet. I don't have time to look.

But you aren't imagining it.

Hi,

The new supplements are at:

http://clos.net/supplements_after_mgb2.htm

Here there are below...

New Supplements After Mini-Gastric Bypass

Remember: Supplements are an addition to your diet that may be advantageous

in your recovery and in the maintenance of your long-term good health. It

is important to note that you do not have to take these supplements. They

might be of some help but they are not necessary for your recovery.

New Supplements: Fish Oil, Zinc-Magnesium Aspartate and Bran

New Supplements to consider:

Fish Oil/Flax Oil Tablets

Zinc l-monomethionine zinc/magnesium aspartate (TwinLab ZMA Fuel available

at Wal-Mart and GNC Stores)

Bran Tablets

Fish Oil/Flax Oil Tablets

Recommended Dose:

1-2 tablets 1-3 times a day. Start Slow and build up slowly.

Information:

Several studies suggest that not all fats are the same and that indeed some

fats be good for you and treat and reverse different types of disease.

Recent studies of the so called Mediterranean diet suggest that relatively

high amounts fat as olive oil actually improved survival. In another study

addition of the omega 3 fatty acids (olive oil) improved the outcome of

patients with bipolar (manic depressive) disease.

Fish and fish oil, rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids, have sparked intense

interest studies, which suggest a favorable effect on Heart Disease and

other studies, which show a striking improvement in lipid profiles in

hyperlipidemic patients.

Patients after gastric bypass malabsorb fat and calories in part leading to

the weight loss.

One concern is the possible deficiency of essential fatty acids. It may be

a good idea to take a fatty acid supplement of fish or flax seed oil. It

also may be advantageous to use olive oil when possible. Corn and safflower

oils on the other hand may not be good choices.

Zinc l-monomethionine zinc/magnesium aspartate (TwinLab ZMA Fuel available

at Wal-Mart and GNC Stores)

Recommended Dose: 3 capsules for men and 2 capsules for women taken on an

empty stomach 30-60 minutes before bedtime. Healing, recovery, tissue

repair, and muscle growth are maximized during sleep when growth hormone is

released by the pituitary gland. Zinc and magnesium may potentiate this

healing effect of growth hormones during sleep.

Information: In a recent double-blind placebo study conducted with NCAA

college football players, researchers at Western Washington University found

that eight weeks of nightly supplementation with ZMA:

Increased plasma zinc levels 29%, while placebo levels decreased 4.4%---a

33.5% difference.

Increased plasma magnesium levels 6.2% while placebo levels decreased

9.2%--a 15.4% difference.

Increased total testosterone levels 32.4% while placebo levels decreased

10.5%--a 42.9% difference.

Increased free testosterone levels 33.5% while placebo levels decreased

10.2%--a 43.6% difference. Increased Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF-1)

levels 3.6% while placebo levels decreased 21.5%--a 25.1% difference.

Increased muscle strength 11.6% while placebo strength increased only

4.6%--a 2.5-fold difference.

Other reported benefits of ZMA include increased physical endurance, a

decrease in muscle cramps and strains, faster healing from injuries,

improved mental concentration and alertness, decreased water retention, and

deeper, more restful sleep.

Bran Tablets

Recommended Dose: 1-2 tablets 1-3 times per day. Start slow and build up.

Information: Bran has been shown in hundreds of studies to decrease fat

absorption, protect the lining of the gut and improve the bowel function.
