OH man,

A typical male whimp here, I seek out and catch every word that has to do

with pain. everyone says it;s nothing. I noticed you talked about groaning

etc... I have NO tolerance at all, I am petrified of the pain. I need to

know how bad it is before I decide on this. Could yo elaborate.

thanks, Bob

Let's put it this way, Bob. If you are going to have *any* procedure,

this one is by far and away -- days less -- pain than any other.

You will have pain for about 6 hours that is controlled by pain meds.

How bad? Maybe as bad as a sprained ankle, or a punch in the stomach

that lasts about 6 hours.

After that, the pain is virtually zero. I didn't need any pain meds at

all, ever, after the first day, and I was not being stoic. I had no

pain.

However, the miracle is that you have JUST HAD MAJOR SURGERY and you

aren't in unbearable, uncontrollable pain, ever. I've had unbearable

pain after other surgery, Bob, and this doesn't even come close. On a

scale of one to ten, having a baby is a 9, this is a 3.

This is a major procedure, yet it's not much worse than going to the

dentist for a filling.

Kind regards,

Hi Bob,

I had the MGB on 8/2. I had quite a bit of pain at first, right in the middle

of my stomach just below the sternum. That lasted for a few hours, but was

helped quite a bit by the pain pump that they give you. Then it really eased

off, and I was able to get up and walk around without much trouble. Since then

I have had very little pain, just some soreness where the five little holes

are. Now that I have mentioned pain, let me tell you that the pain was much

less and of much shorter duration than it was for the two other surgeries I

have had, which were a c-section and a breast reduction (you probably don't

have any experience with either of those :)). I also consider myself to be a

wimp about pain, and I would not have hesitated to have the MGB even if I had

known exactly how it was going to feel beforehand. So, yes, there was some

pain that I didn't like :), but, no, it was not unbearable. Don't be too

afraid. Also, everyone is different and a lot of people who have had the MGB

have reported that they have had basically no pain. You might be one of those

people!

Also, I know you have mentioned your weight being a bit over the limit in some

earlier posts. Don't worry too much about that. I know that it will depend

some on how tall you are, and, as you said Dr. R has done surgery on some

people over the 350 pound stated limit. At the worst he might ask you to try

to lose a bit before the surgery, but probably you will be all right.
