Guest guest
Cooking with yogurt will negate the beneficial effects. Guest guest
, You asked: <<Is SCD yogurt as beneficial if I make some kind of frozen yogurt with fruit and honey with it? Is the bacteria still active?>> Many of the bacteria will die if frozen. Impossible to know for sure, but some may remain alive. Will your son eat " ranch dip " ? You can make a legal ranch from SCD mayo and a small amount of yogurt mixed... with legal spices and salt. Then he could eat steamed baby carrots, green beans, etc.... and dip each one. Or, what about a smoothie? Ripe banana, crushed ice, a wee bit of yogurt and splash of vanilla. He'd never know the yogurt was there and you could slowly increase it to get him used to the taste. <<Also, Both boys have always eaten raw, peeled apples--can I continue them if there are no digestive issues to contend with, or do I have to go to cooked?>> You really need to go with all peeled and cooked fruits and veggies in the beginning.... if not, you're not really doing SCD as prescribed and you likely will not have the best results. I'm sure if you're working this hard, you'll want the very best outcome, in the shortest amount of time. You just can't cut corners or " push the river " , so to speak. You really have got to start at square one and move ahead slowly. I know the kids want to have the foods they are used to.... but the raw apples are really not advised until later. Probably MONTHS from now. Patti frozen yogurt?/raw apples As a newbie here (not completely SCD yet), I'm stuggling to get my 2.75 year old ASD son to eat some of the things on the beginner diet. Veggies are hard but veggie pancakes and muffins work well. My biggest problem is that I want him to eat some yogurt but he refuses it on sight. I have tried both cashew and goat yogurt (we are casein sesnitive but he tested with a nearly negligible reaction to goats milk). My one year old NT son with digestive issues will gobble both kinds up. Is SCD yogurt as beneficial if I make some kind of frozen yogurt with fruit and honey with it? Is the bacteria still active? We have been on probiotics for about two months with good results but I really want to get some yogurt in the diet. Also, Both boys have always eaten raw, peeled apples--can I continue them if there are no digestive issues to contend with, or do I have to go to cooked? Thanks, , newly diagnosed celiac mom to 2.75 years old ,ASD, and 1.4, NT, chronic constipation SCD has already overcome the constipation issues for my NT son; GFCF overcame ASD son's year-long cycle of diarrhea with occasional flare-ups. As we get closer to completely SCD compliant, flare-ups have disappeared
Guest guest
One of the sneakiest ways I know of to " hide " yogurt is to drip it until it is very thick, then add a bit of honey and whip it together and turn it into " frosting " . Other ideas are using it in a " milkshake " or mixing it into something like the Green or Orange Pudding (recipes on pecanbread.com). Guest guest
Jody, Please tell me what you mean by dripping yogurt? We are just getting started with my 4 year old autistic grandson on SCD(my daughter & I will do the diet with him). I am making yogurt in the oven now but know I need to get a yogurt maker to make it easier tomake. I will appreciate any info. Guest guest
" Jody, Please tell me what you mean by dripping yogurt? " Sure. You can either get a dripping bag (when you get a yogurt maker) or you can use a colander lines with a coffee filter. Just get a colander, place it over a bowl and line it with a coffee filter. Pour the yogurt into the coffee filter and allow it to drip until the yogurt becomes as thick as you want it. You can let it drip long enough that it will become like cream cheese in texture. (I drip mine in the fridge after the 8-hour resting period in the fridge). Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
