Guest guest
Ok, not sure if I've spelled that right. Anyway, there is a post here about using it after the intro diet, but after exploring around the pecanbread web site, I see it is not recommended as a probiotic. Any comments? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi , I'm not sure I have a definitive answer. Elaine really did not have time to research the many new probiotic bacterial strains that have come out on the market over the past several years. She was uncomfortable with " experimenting " when it came to some of these strains. She worried about supplementing with many of the other strains and wondered why people couldn't just stick with good ole " tried and true " acidophilus only. She knew that one was a good " space taker-upper " (technical term I made up!),which would prevent the harmful pathogens from opportunistically taking over.... and that acidophilus was basically harmless to those of us on SCD. I've always been happy enough to do this " Elaine's way " and not branch off into using other strains. That doesn't mean that some of the others may not be beneficial.... but she just would have wanted to be absolutely, solidly SURE, before recommending something other than what worked for her and so many other people over so many years. I'll admit, I personally have not researched this strain at all... so I can't say anything negative about it. I went to Elaine's website, www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and searched around in the " Knowledge Base " but all I was able to find was that it " isn't allowed on SCD " , because the effects of it (and several other bacterial strains and soil-based organisms) " have not been well researched or documented " . If I can find out anything else, I'll post it. Patti Use of Sacchromyces Boulardi Ok, not sure if I've spelled that right. Anyway, there is a post here about using it after the intro diet, but after exploring around the pecanbread web site, I see it is not recommended as a probiotic. Any comments? Thanks. Guest guest
Elaine approved this strain at some point, to the best of my knowledge. Guest guest
I looked all over her website and could not find anything except one passage that included it along with soil-based strains and said none of them were legal. Can you give me a link to the message or section that verifies it's legal? If I could have that in my own files that would be really helpful. Thanks Summer.... Guest guest
I do not have a link, perhaps one of the other mods has some link info. It would be nice to clarify. Pecanbread website also says that only the Houston's SCD version enzymes are legal, but Elaine did make the original enzymes with rice bran oil legal as well, but not reflected on the online lists. Guest guest
For some reason I too know she approved it. I actually use it myself and do find it helpful. I do know that it is non-colonizing and not related to Candida at all. It is esp good for traveler's d. As with anything that we use in the *unknown* realm, use with caution and at your own risk. I agree with Patti that it may be ok however, Elaine did not have time to research every bacterial strain that came along. Guest guest
In the research I've done on this, it is a yeast not commonly found in the human body. It seems to push out the candida (probably causing MAJOR die-off for some people) as it colonizes in your system. Most of the research states to use it for about 3 months, then when you come off it, it dies off. It seems to only stay in your system for the amount of time that you take it. It will affect the gut flora. There are studies to be found if you google - it works very well with the HIV/AIDS population, and a couple of studies on IBD and Crohn's, but didn't see any on autism. Be careful if you decide to use it - some of them have illegals in them. Hope this helps. Guest guest
" It would be nice to clarify. Pecanbread website also says that only the Houston's SCD version enzymes are legal, but Elaine did make the original enzymes with rice bran oil legal as well, but not reflected on the online lists. " I just looked at pecanbread.com to check on this. There is no mention of the cellulose vs. the rice bran enzymes on pecanbread.com. I just listed the 3 varieties of enzymes that Houston's sells. The chewables are not allowed because of the sweeteners, but the others are fine. S. Boulardii is allowed on SCD. Elaine herself approved it. As soon as I get some time, I'll go through the most recent Kirkman's Catalog and add any other supplements that I see that are fine for SCD. There are other companies that make products that are fine for SCD. It's just that I don't have the time to read the catalogs for every supplement manufacturer to make a comprehensive list.
