Guest guest
My family started this diet last Sunday for my autistic daughter. She has been sweatig like crazy when she sleeps. Is she possible sweating out toxins?? Anyone ever heard of string poop? What about white spots on skin (i.e. pigment issue). I know we have many many medical issues going on with autism so I don't know if any of you know of these things. Thanks for any help! Guest guest
Sounds like the sweating could definitely be her body's way of detoxing. As far as the other symptoms, do you mean these have newly appeared since starting the diet? If so, I'd say yes, it's probably die-off related. She's been on the diet less than a week.... BIG changes are going on down in the gut. This affects her entire system. Be sure she drinks plenty of (legal) fluids. Guest guest
Thanks. Good to hear from someone else that this could be toxins. It really caught me off guard. The Dr's office that put us on this Dr. never told us that we could have this " die-off " . The Pigment thing actually starte before the diet. But these kids have so many mineral & vitamin deficiencies that I wondered if this was something else going on that we didn't notice till she started getting some color from the sun. Anyone else experience the stringy poop? Thanks! > > Sounds like the sweating could definitely be her body's way of detoxing. Guest guest
Hi! Have you taken her temperature? My son Ben, 16, had fevers from 100- 104 on and off for over a month. Some blood tests indicated it was die off. I was worried. He is awesome now--looks and feels better. I didn't think he had one, but during a physical...they discovered it. A little embarrassed! It was at least 101 that day. Lorraine SCD 6 months > > My family started this diet last Sunday for my autistic daughter. She > has been sweatig like crazy when she sleeps. Guest guest
I hope I am not hijacking this thread but I have a few questions related to this same thing. I am hoping for some insight or advice here. Today is day 5 of scd. We have introduced applesauce, pearsauce and spinach. This morning for breakfast we had 24 hour yogurt made with cow's milk, which I test IgG allergic to (ds has not been tested) and a banana (both new additions but we have never reacted to bananas before and Spencer was begging for one). Ds has not really eaten well the last three days. He is saying no to all the food. Today he ate the yogurt and banana, scrambled eggs, pearsauce, cooked carrots with a couple of small pieces of chicken, more pearsauce, the intro cheesecake and that's all. I worried all day that he was not getting enough protein although he is nursing like a newborn - every two hours. When should I begin to worry that he is not getting enough food? He is eating much less than he did before we started and he does seem hungry, just not interested in THIS food. Also, tonight he has a fever of 102. Is this related to die off because of the yogurt? Coincidence? Response of his immune system to the diet? He has no other symptoms of cold or anything else. After eating the yogurt I have two huge " lesions " on my tongue. I have been told before that I have geographic tongue for any of you that know what that is. The spots are the biggest spots I think I have ever had. I do get them when I eat things I am not supposed to. And I feel mildly achey all over. I might be tired from all the damn cooking I have been doing lol. Does the tongue thing sound like die-off or maybe a reaction to eating cow's milk yogurt, which I have not had for months? Do I put up with the reaction because the yogurt is supposed to help so much? And one last thing. What is die-off supposed to feel like? I am assuming that it is different for each person. I should add that last night both of us started taking pascalite clay to help with die off. If it's helping, I am glad that it is but for the last three days I feel pretty much normal. Shouldn't I be feeling bad? If I am not, am I doing something wrong? Tammy - SCD 5 days for food allergies Mom to Spencer age 2 - asthma, food allergies. I > have been > told before that I have geographic tongue for any of you that know > what that > is. http://www.drgreene.com/21_784.html > Geographic tongue is a marvelous, descriptive name for one of the most common medical conditions of the tongue. Parents usually are the ones to notice several large, red, slightly depressed, unusually smooth patches on the surface of their child's tongue -- when nothing was there hours before. Often the red areas are bordered with distinct white bands. The sharp borders of these irregularly shaped lesions give the surface of the tongue the appearance of a map, perhaps a map of a group of uncharted islands. The rather dramatic appearance of geographic tongue looks to many like a burn, or like some kind of nasty infection. > The spots are the biggest spots I think I have ever had. Do I put up with the reaction > because the yogurt is supposed to help so much? Yogurt should be introduced gradually if you haven't had it in a while and goat's milk yogurt may be better tolerated. As an adult on the diet, I use the goat's milk that is recommended for the children. Occasionally I get an itchy leg from legal dairy but not always. > > > And one last thing. Guest guest
Tammy, It does also seem to me that he is eating quite well for a brand-new SCD kid. I wouldn't worry. You say he is refusing all the food.... but then you say he is eating: <<yogurt and banana, scrambled eggs, pearsauce, cooked carrots with a couple of small pieces of chicken, more pearsauce, the intro cheesecake >> ....plus, that he is nursing a lot. I think you'd be surprised to know how many calories he is making up for with breast milk. That really sounds okay to me. The fever definitely sounds die-off related to me. And the achiness you're experiencing probably is, too. I don't know much about geographic tongue... except that my younger sister had it, and my six-yr-old granddaughter, too. I've heard it mentioned on this list before, as being a symptom of gut-dysbiosis of some kind.... but am not sure about that. I don't know anything about the use of pasculite clay. We usually recommend that people use activated charcoal... or epsom salts baths... to deal with die-off symptoms. I think you can expect your son's appetite and acceptance of the new foods to pick up soon... but in the meantime, I would not worry. He will be okay eating a bit less protein in food form for a while. Your milk certainly has quite a bit. Remember, if he had bad gut pathogens flourishing in his intestinal tract, THEY are starving and wanting him to find starchy carbs and sugar.... so if he is asking for, begging for, his old favorites, the messages are in part coming from the " bad guys " who are trying whatever they can to survive. The cravings come from them! Once they've departed in significant numbers, cravings subside and the " new foods " start to appeal more. Have you looked at some of the " sneaky " recipes on www.pecanbread.com ? Look in the recipe section, but also in the " overcoming difficulties " section. As far as adding in the yogurt, we do *usually* suggest that it be started in very small amounts.... and in goat yogurt form... for anyone who has been dairy free prior to starting the diet. And it is usually not started right in the very beginning, if someone has had past reactions/intolerance to dairy. You might want to scale back a bit... or take a day or so off from the yogurt and see how your tongue feels. Patti Re: Side-effects of diet Have you taken her temperature?
