Guest guest
, I'm not sure I can fully answer all your questions, but will try. <<1) What brand of yogurt can I buy from the grocery store as a starter?>> As far as I know, plain Dannon yogurt is the only one you can use as a starter. I'm not sure if there are others. I prefer to use the powdered Yogourmet starter for yogurt, myself. <<2) My son has high cholesterol, can I use two egg whites as a substitute for 1 egg in the cheese cake recipe.>> You don't have to use any food that your child can't tolerate. I wouldn't be surprised if after some time on the diet, when his digestion and absorption begins to work properly, you find that his cholesterol levels become more normal.... though don't quote me on that. <<3) What changes in our stools should we look for as an indication that die-off is complete? ( What is the cycle of the changes in stool?)>> Every individual is different. You may see all kinds of color changes (a good sign in the beginning). You may see " stringy stuff " or " specks " , etc. Hard to say. You know you're on the right track when you get a " trophy " ..... (a nicely formed, brown BM). I guess we call them " trophies " around here because some parents feel like having them bronzed and mounted in a frame! That means success! The kids *may* go through more rounds of " die-off " months into the diet, though... so it may not all be over in the very beginning. <<4) When should we use the charcoal, is it the first day of our diet or should we wait to feel a certain way?>> You may not need it. Again each person is different. I would have it on hand, and use it if symptoms are severe. Epsom salts baths help, too. <<5) Is the Hamilton Beach food processor a good processor? >> I have no idea. I make do with a tiny " Little " and a cheap hand blender. I have lately been drooling over a shiny red Kitchen Aide food processor, like a kid dreaming of a Radio Flyer. Santa may have to start saving up for that one, though. Hopefully, others can give some input. Patti, mom to Katera.... former SCD-er in 2003-04.... back on it (both of us) since 5/27/06. Just my opinion as one who only became a better cook AFTER SCD and even gave cooking lessons at a local supermarket. The Cuisinart is a superb food processor. Having the advantage of one makes preparation and cleanup a snap and results professional. It was Elaine who convinced me to get one two years ago but it was an older model, hard to open and close so I returned it. When this latest model came out I tried again, raved about it and thanked her many times for " shaming " me into reconsidering. I got an 11 cup plus model ( not colored) and in Canada it was about $250 http://www.cuisinart.com/catalog/category.php?cat_id=7 > > Carol F.
