Elaine said not to you use it. It has to be in a liquid suspension to blend with the juice. adding calcium to orange juice was no trivial task: They had to make sure that calcium did not make the OJ unpalatable and, more important, that the mineral would be “bioavailable,” meaning that once combined with the juice, it would remain stable and in a form that could be absorbed by bones. Without bioavailability, the calcium, no matter how abundant, would have had no actual health value. The stabilizer makes it illegal > -Tomato Juice. The only juice I have found that's just tomatoes & > salt is the Store brand in a large can. Contact the store's head office and get verification that nothing has been added. It sounds OK to me. Yes, it is in our local HFS and Whole Foods, but the Giant supermarket down the street has it as well. Guest guest
Is it more expensive & difficult to make your own juices? What about when the items are out of season? Is there a book that will tell you hohow to make juices? > > > > -Just Juice-where do you get this? Ignore the fact that this refers to weight loss because it advises what we do--dilute juices. There is a lot of helpful juicing info. I use an Omega 8002 machine and can make all sorts f things with it including ground meat and sherbet. http://juicer.lifetips.com/cat/59939/juicing-for-weight-loss/ Carol F. Is there a book that will tell you > how to make juices? > You've gotten a lot of good answers here already :-) Yes, you can buy a juicer, and depending on the brand (and ease of cleaning) it can either be a big help or PIA. Most juicers come with books. We do have a juicer. However, our schedule has been so nuts lately that when I mentioned " making juice " I was referring to the by-products of fruit fritters; a typical snack around here. Sorry I did not clarify. If interested, the FF are just whatever fresh (or frozen) organic fruits look good - I buzz the cut up pieces (may want to peel and steam first if new to diet) in the FP or blender, and sieve the juice out. I freeze the juice in ice cube trays, then store them by kind in glass mason jars for a cool little splash of flavor to Glenn's water. I blend the fruit pulp w/ egg and panfry for a quick snack. If you are okay with nut butter these could be a sandwich-type thing. -christine Paleo (etc) and Glenn SCD/LOD (etc) 2/
Guest guest
Thank you for explaining the calcium. I'm one of those that just can't do things for face value. I want to under stand why and that now makes sense. What about the Welches juice question? Anyone know why this is legal when it's from concentrate? > > > Welches grape juice. Guest guest
Great idea! Actually that gave me the idea to freeze the (attempt at) Strawberry jam but putting in ice cube trays & using as a treat. You mix your fruit with egg? I'm not sure I'm understanding this part. > > > > Is it more expensive & difficult to make your own juices? What > about > > when the items are out of season? Glenn can handle raw fruit so long as it is not too much/often. However, the egg gives it a bit more " tide me over to next meal-ness " b/c of the protien. Smells great too. We had butternut squash ones for breakfast (his had banana; I'm allergic). -christine
