Exposure to mold through the lungs of someone without cf???

I have a question for anyone who might know something about mold and the

lungs. We have plans to see my younger sister tomorrow. She called and

told me that her daughter has had a bad cough for several weeks, every

since they slept at my older sister's house where my younger sister

believes they slept in a basement covered in mold. A dehumidifer was

running but yet her bag was wet when she picked it up from the basement

floor so it didn't seem to be helping much. She has taken her daughter

to the doctor several times since the cough started and the doctors

finally realized that even though her lungs sounded clear that she had an

oxygen saturation level of 96% which for someone who doesn't have CF

bothered them. They gave her an albuterol treatment and it went up to

100%.

They decided she had been exposed to something that triggered a reaction

(the mold). She has been put on albuterol for a week and they indicated

that she should be fine after that but if it happens again, then the

reaction has resulted in the development of asthma. I forget what she

said the technical name was for this. My question is this: Does this

mean that the mold is being harbored in her lungs? She doesn't have CF

so do I need to be concerned about having Emma near her? Any thoughts

would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Law - mom to the butterfly girls Isabelle almost 5 years old wo/cf

and Emma 3 years old w/cf
