Leah,

I suspect you will begin to see more days with firm stools... and fewer mushy

days in between. It takes more than 9 days to heal a leaky gut... but you're

lucky that he's so young. He will have a better chance of responding well. Two

or three weeks from now, as you look back, I am confident that you will see some

kind of change.

It must seem intense right now. You're working hard and you're really wanting a

breakthrough... something to tell you you're doing the right thing. I can

understand that. Each child is different, so it's really impossible for us to

say whether you should or shouldn't expect big changes by now. Some do, some

don't.

I would not stop the yogurt if he is tolerating it. I might suggest more

vegetables. You're diluting the apple cider, right? I am not familiar with that

farmer's cheese, but I assume it checked out as SCD legal according to someone

else here?

A legal multi-vitamin would not be a bad idea... but not crucial that you do it

right this minute. You just might want to find one to add in before long.

feeling frustrated

We're on day 9 of SCD. Did the intro for 2 days. Have additionally had

ripe bananas, green beans, apple cider and apple sauce. We've used

Friendly Farmers - Farmer's Cheese and whole cow's milk for yogurt. I'm

feeling frustrated because things haven't changed much at all.

has never had serious GI issues - stool has just always been mushy and

not formed. His stool is still mushy (had 2 firm but not 2 days in a

row), we didn't really have noticeable die-off (although did

have " string " in stool 2nd day in), and his behaviors are all the same.

I know we're just at the beginning of this very long journey....but

should we be seeing something by now? We didn't come into this casein

free as this is the only intervention we've used ( just diagnosed

in Mar.) Should I go back to the beginning and do without yogurt? He

really loves it in cottage cheese, banana smoothies, and with honey

added. He's eaten very balanced meals - always has been a good eater.

I've tried to be very careful and strictly SCD (no other supplements

now.) Should I continue moving forward? Or back up? Help! Advice and

support would be welcome:) Thanks!

hi, i dont know if this helps but there are quite a few of us that

have had problems with bananas in the early stages i the diet -

although they are very digestible, they are an amine based fruit and

many children on the spectrum cant cope with amines - i know for

mine, that bananas cause very mushy stools.

I would try them out for a few days and see how you go.

Also if you give too much fruit based products and not enough

vegetable based products, this will also cause mushy stools.

also thought to add, we usually start with very small amounts of

yogurt, it 1/8th to 1/4 of a tsp at the beginning of the diet as its

very potent - so this all of course may be die off if you are using

larger amounts. if you thihk this may be the case, id leave the

yogurt out for a few days and see if it settles down and reintroduce

at small amounts, sorry i know its so hard to try and get the

balance right at first, especially during the early days.

Maybe cut back on the honey that you are using. Elaine said to use

1/3 the amount in the beggining. Plus water down the juice, or use

no juice at all. Plus maybe back up and only feed ONLY highly

digestable foods only. May not be fun, but green beans may

be " jumping " . Unless we purre green beans, we still don't digest

them. The carrots and green beans are always purred and put into a

broth. We still can't digest those burgers that well!

Experiment, with taking a few things away and see. BUT, be

careful, Always remembering that the point of SCD is to slowly ADD

more foods, not take them away. Many intolerances vanish in time

and healing, so always test foods the first year. But remember,

that what the body can not digest does harm, and keeps the viious

cycle going. Look into this first, by going to the stages offered

on Pecan Bread, before cutting out foods or assuming anything about

the yogurt. A helpful guideline to when to offer foods.

My son couldn't tolerate the banana either, four months out he now

can. My duahgter didn't have a problem with the banana. No rhyme

or reason! We came casien free but have always tolerated the 24

hour SCD yogurt.

The yogurt is so full of good probiotics I would be reluctant to

tell you to stop. Unless you use a good nut yorgurt or some kind of

good SCD legal yogurt, for the substitute for the probiotics. The

yogurt is sooooo needed for SCD to work right.

We have had set backs to. This first year is going to be

frustrating for all of us. Hang in there. I get frustrated too!

SCD is such a healthy way to eat, we all could benifit! It just

takes time for some of us, if not all of us. Remember that if SCD is

done 100% most of us have success of some kind.
