hi my son used to be like this, and he barely ate anything the first

10 days (scd 1st time round), just drank a lot of juice ate eggs and

roast chicken, after this his issues with textures just seemed to

change overnight, and he was much more tolerant of cooked apples,

boiled eggs etc

what ive been trying this time round, is cooking the apples to the

point where they still retain some familiar texture but not to the

point of soggily overcooked, i steam them with a little honey over

the top and he seems perfectly happy to eat them.

emma scd a few months but now doing intro

kai pdd nos/dyspraxia 8

fian completely behaviourally recovered - just still suffering bowel

issues 3

Thanks for responding. You said you continued Phase One for 10 days. Did you

" know " when it was time to add Phase 2? Was there a behavioural change or better

bms? Or, is 10 days the " rule of thumb " ?

I'm looking at the Phases shown here:

http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro

Also, for anyone who can advise: No bm for 2 days now (going into day 3). Is

there

something legal I can do in the early phase to get things moving?

Thanks, Amy

hi

we ended intro and went into phase 1 when he was ready to eat more

basically, he refused to eat anything depite my regular attempts

except poached eggs and roast chicken and lots of juice - i

eventually tempted him with banana pancakes, but i also think he

just responded because it took him that long for enough bacteria to

die off for him to respond to new foods without issues, as far

moving through the stages goes - behaviours will improve over time,

id personally just add more foods/change stages when they are moving

their bowels at least once a day, pretty firm/nugget looking, is the

general rule of thumb, i think, i may stand corrected of course, but

that is what i believe to be the case.

as far as constipation goes, there is liquid parrafin available from

the chemist, or if you dont wish to follow that route, sheila - an

old hand around here - used to suggest prunes/figs in the evening -

but just be careful with these if you have yeast issues - but they

always worked a treat for us.

What can I do for intro diet for an ASD child/picky eater who is

allergic to eggs and doesn't eat meat but needs more protein (but NOT

more calories)? Can the goat yogurt be started right away? Or can

stage 1 be shortened to less than 10 days, as long as he is not

having symptoms? He has not had any noticeable digestive symptoms

(reflux, diarrhea) or been underweight since soon after starting

digestive enzymes and I'm not concerned about getting calories into

him, so should I just wait for him to become less picky on his own on

the SCD diet?

How much time should you spend on each stage? I don't remember time

periods for each stage being in the book BTVC. Or was I reading too

quickly and missed it?

hi

the intro diet itself only needs to last between 2 and 5 days, only

longer if you have stubborn d or stubborn i dont want to eat

behaviour, in which case you trust your judgement, the stages are

only guidelines, you may find your child tolerates something in

stage 2 but not in stage 1, mine cant tolerate bananas, even when we

got up to stage 3 last time, they still couldnt, it just depends on

the child.

My eldest was on intro 2 days this time and already is into spinach

and green beans, i did start the goat yogurt a week before we went

on the intro because of the terrible state of their stomachs, i only

give currently 1/4 tsp last thing at night to help repopulate the

bowel overnight. and today we had perfect stools from both boys, we

had been scd previously without intro after a relapse, but we

recognised that we had to go back to the intro with the yogurt

included to slow them down as it were, we started our intro last

thursday.

im aiming to keep them on stage 1 for another 10 days, but that is a

personal thing that im judging on their bms rite now and taking into

account an increase in yogurt, ill be increasing the goat yogurt on

friday, to 1/4 tsp twice a day and see where that takes us. You

need to start slow with goat yogurt as its very potent.

if hes not having significant stomach issues, id do it for at least

1 day - even if he only eats jelly, and then start up with a few

stage 1 foods and see where you go, sorry i cant be much more help,

hopefully someone else who has a child with egg issues can volunteer

more

With no eggs or meat, I don't see how it will be possible for you to

provide adequate nutrition for your child.

You need a good source of protein.

Are you using dairy?

Why will your child not eat meat? Taste, texture?

Is the egg isssue a true allergy (IgE)?

If dairy is tolerated DCCC is a good source of protein. Make SCD cheesecake, or

combine

the DCCC with beaten egg, layer it with vegetables and bake with simmered down

tomato

juice.

Yes. Cheese is his main source of protein so far and he takes

digestive enzymes with his meals to digest casein and gluten.

The meat avoidance is a taste/texture/sensory/picky eater thing. He

eats meat and poulty if it is pureed and mixed into tomato sauce,

squash or sweet potatoes, just not separately. Squash and tomatoes

are allowed in the diet, just not in stage 1.

> Is the egg isssue a true allergy (IgE)?

The egg allergy is a true allergy as determined by skin test in the

allergist's office. Also, someone who was confused about his

allergies tried to force him to eat something with egg in it and he

got instant swollen lips and hives on the chin just touching it to

his mouth, so I hate to think what would happen if some got in his

throat. He carries an epi-pen in case of allergic reaction. Egg is

his only known true allergy (did not test allergic to wheat, milk,

mold, peanuts, etc.).

SWEET POTATOES SHOULD NOT BE USED ON SCD but Butternut squash is an

excellent substitute

Luckily you can use nuts and nut butters and perhaps substitute apple

or pear sauce for eggs in recipes.

hi again

i dont know if this is any help, i just didnt think to mention it

earlier, fian will not eat any meat in its usual form unless it is

in sausages which i home make myself - so they are nice and soft,

and finely minced or we make meat bread, which is your basic

meatloaf, i usually add 2 eggs, but ive taken that out and added

more veg.

we take 1 small chicken, roast it, take off the meat, put it through

the mincer, add 4 pureed zuchinni, which have been peeled etc and

steamed, perhaps even a pear to make a little sweeter. press it in

to a 1lb loaf tin, which is encased in greaseproof paper, with goat

butter smeared over to stop it sticking, then i cover the top with

some honey,

i bake it at 180c for an hour in middle of oven - it tastes lovely -

it stays really moist so my boy chews it up quite happily - he eats

lamb this way too, we get away with pork in the sausages, which as

long as they are cut up small he dips in tomato sauce.

its always worth a try, when i very first started everything had to

be given to him with massive amounts of tomato sauce, but this time

round, - i have more cookbooks and am more confident to amend

recipies, so this has been alot more successful than waiting 10 days.

That sounds great! Thank you for the recipe.

What kind of mincer do you have? When you say " put it through the

mincer " I'm imaging something like a meat grinder / sausage maker,

but I don't really know.

ok i use the moulinex HV8 - it comes with a sausage attachment,

sausage skins - i use pork - i can buy for £6.50 giving me 25 yards,

its a bit tricky at first but once you get the hang of it its such a

life saver. They may have upgraded the model by now, but its never

caused me any trouble except with raw chicken skin - you have to cut

it up so small to get it through the mincer - it send me nuts, but

it send me worse having to unpick it all from the mincer every 30

secs.

it is a meat grinder, then you change the attachment for the sausage

maker - which is basically a plastic tube with a hole in the end!!

but its really easy to use and well worth the investment.

hi you should be able to order online - i bought mine in the UK from

john lewis - they have great coffee bean grinders there too which i

make nut butter in. I use the moulinex HV8 but it may have been

upgraded., greaseproof paper is like baking parchment paper, it

stops the meat sticking to the loaf tin, plus i also hope it reduces

the flow of any contaminents coming in off the tin itself

Dry Curd Cotage Cheese, a great low fat source of protein with no

lactose as the cheese making process with a bacterial culture consumes

it.

I haven't read all the posts on this so sorry if this has been

covered. What type of egg allergy does your son have? My son had

an off the chart IGG allergy to egg, but he is eating " heaps " on SCD

with no problem at all. We did have him of eggs completely for

18mths prior to SCD which I think helped, but I was stunned that

they didn't seem to bother him at all.

What protein was he eating before SCD?

My food allergy scratch test didn't say a word about eggs but i had

been showing sensitivity to just about everything before i started SCD.

I even gave an earful to the Egg marketing Board for glamorizing them

in ads.

One week into SCD I was enjoying, scrambled. fried, poached, omelets

and baked goods with eggs.
