Guest guest
Hi Amy- No I did not have the support of my pediatrician. I made the mistake of seeing a different ped in the same practice for a couple of well visits in a row and he came right out and told me that helmets were a crock and that it would round out by the time my son was 3. But if I waited until he was 3, it would be too late to do anything. So I went to another pediatrician in a different practice and he was very open and understanding and was willing to write the script for me. I also saw a craniofacial surgeon though too, who wrote the script, though he was unsure it would do any good because of my son's age. It turned out that once he was banded, our original ped was very supportive and understanding, so I wish I would have continued to see her throughout the second half of my son's first year instead of switching. Maybe I would have been able to convince her and we would have banded sooner. So my advice to you is, if you really feel the band is the way to go for you, I would keep searching until I found a doctor willing to write the script. I would start by going to another ped for a second opinion. That way he's viewing your son with a fresh eye and setting it up as a second opinion visit, puts some importance on the situation and hopefully they will take your concerns seriously. If that doesn't work, seek out a specialist (I would recommend a craniofacial/plastic surgeon over a neurosurgeon, they seem to take plagio a little more seriously). Good luck! Please keep me posted!
