Guest guest
There is also the PH probe to test for reflux. had this. The probe goes up the nose and down the throat like an ng tube. it sits above the valve at the end of the esophagus and measures how high up the acids are coming or if they are coming at all. It doesn't interfere with eating or breathing. There is also a milk scan but if you have a picky eater then this probably won't work because they have to drink a really thick, nasty concoction- then they are put under this x-ray like device that shows the stomach and how fast it is emptying and if the stuff is coming back up. We tried this with but it didn't work well because she was spitting and spraying the stuff out all over me, the nurses, the other people in the room as well as the equipment - she was like a little fountain of thick stinky stuff (lol). Also, apple juice can cause gas. pear juice doesn't though- I used the Gerber pear juice when was little because with her delicate digestive system, the apple juice bothered her (even though she loved it) Re: introduction and comments on diet in cf > Questions>>>> > > When did you start feeding Emma adult table foods? Guest guest
, Is this the test where they are in hospital for duration? I believe this is the one they would like to try with Colgan. Boy I have got to get more technical. At times I feel like a babbeling idiot. I am sure it will come with time. I don't imagine mine would do to hot with the concoction either. I do give pear juice as well. I have noticed the same with Colgan. he has a lot of bowel mov. after apple. Thanks Ashauna
Guest guest
Ashauna, We did the ph probe as an inpatient because was already in the hospital for an infection. I was told that they could do it inpatient or outpatient. but that would really be a pain to go in 2 days in a row-also the probe thing is hooked up to a little monitor that is about the size of a little transistor radio and I'm sure it must be costly. Some hospitals may only do it inpatient. The milk scan was done outpatient. they tried this one first, before she had the ph probe. My mom tried to give every one of her children (4 of us) apple juice as little ones and we all got terrible gas from it too. I tried it with and after she would drink it she would start with gas pains. pulling those skinny little legs up so tight and screaming. I gave it up after the first few tries. Even now I notice more gas after she drinks it- though not as painful. She really loves it though. I don't see as much of a problem when it is mixed with other juices. Guest guest
, The first one that you described is the one that I have a friend here in Florida who her son is just a little one as well. Not cf but have not found positve DX of anything. Anyways that is what she expained to me happened to her son. We actually see the same GI doc. May have to stay inpatient though. He is very old fashioned hard headed and thinks he is right about everything so you just can't argue. He feels that hospital is the only place anyone needs to be treated. Some times I think I might hall off and slug him. No just kidding but man for such a smart man he is horrible with people. Hope that you and yours are doing well tonight Ashauna
