Sara,

How are you doing? You didn't say. Any problems? The last thing I

remember before surgery was you saying good luck. I don't even remember

going through the doors. Have you heard anything from the two guys that had

surgery the same day. One was having problems with bleeding when I left,

but I don't know his name and can't find out how he is doing. I hope you

are doing as well as I.

Hi Kay,

I'm doing great. My feet haven't swelled at all since the surgery, even on the

long

drive home. I love that! I didn't have any complications and no nausea even

though

I couldn't use the patch because I tend toward low blood pressure.

I think the man that had bleeding problems was all right because my husband

thought

he saw him leave the hospital with his family just before I left. I don't know

about

the other guy.

Have you looked at 's website yet? There are a couple of pictures of you

on

it. It is at http://fourlane.com/mgb/mgbindex.htm

It's a great web site.

Keep me posted on how you are doing. How is Frona?

Sara,

Frona and I are both doing fantastic. Frona returned to work five days

after surgery. I had time to take so I will be going back tomorrow. I

couldn't use the patch because it made me nauseaus. Go figure. Yes, I have

seen 's website. It is wonderful except for my pictures. I can't wait

to send her " after " pictures. I'm glad you are doing well. What are you

eating now. I have tried mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, bananas, and some

chicken salad on crackers. Nothing so far bothers me at all. Of course, I

can only eat a little bit. Will wonders never cease? The man that was

bleeding was not the one withthe family. He only had another guy with him.

His friend was pretty worried when we left. I'm sure he is alright though.

I left a trail of blood the first time I went to the bathroom also. Let me

know how you're doing. bye

Hi Kay,

I remember that I did see the man with the other man with him at Tuesday clinic

after

the surgery. He looked like he was all right. I got confused about who had the

bleeding problem. So I guess both the guys who had surgery on the same day as

we did

are all right! Hooray!!

I'm so glad Frona is doing so well, too!

You look great in your pictures on 's site! I am still pretty much eating

broth, fruit juice, V-8 juice, yogurt, and crackers. I had some banana baby

food

today, and it was good. I have also had a couple of frozen fruit and juice

bars.

They were good. I ate almost half of one at one sitting tonight. I seem to be

able

to eat more at one time the past two days. I can drink water fine, and I like

ice

chips, too, because I get thirsty a lot. I like to salt my V-8 juice.

Keep the updates coming. I love to hear how you're doing and what you're

eating.

Kay, I am 8 months post op and I think we all felt the way you do now. I kept

telling everybody that I think Dr. Rutledge forgot to do the surgery on me

and just gave me tiny port holes. Now 8 months later I have lost 112 pounds.

Go figure I guess he really did do something after all. Liz

Sara,

I'm glad the guys are okay. I was a little worried about him. I'm glad you

are doing well too. As for me, I really think Dr. R. really forgot to do

anything when he got inside me. I have no pain, no nausea, and I can eat

anything I want. Of course, I can eat only small amounts. I have always

loved bread and my curiosity got the best of me last night. I toasted a

slice of bread very crispy, put probably a teaspoon of peanut butter and a

little piece of banana on it. It was so wonderful and didn't bother me at

all. I'm getting a little scared that this is not working for me because

nothing bothers me. I haven't tried meat yet. I will definitely wait 4 or

6 weeks on that. Except I did eat the chicken salad, very runny, on

crackers. It was good too. Do you think maybe something is wrong with me

and it isn't working?

No! You are PERFECTLY NORMAL. Your response is IDENTICAL to a lot of

people before you who have wondered the EXACT same things for the EXACT

same reasons (including me)! They feel great, they seem to be able to

hold a lot more than they expected, nothing bothers them to eat.

However, keep in mind that nothing you are experiencing now is " normal "

-- it will all be different by 3 mos.

Your stomach will heal, you'll get some scar tissue, and it will

actually be smaller than it is now, plus it will be functioning MUCH

better and you will also be in tune with it like you have never been

before in your life.

You will start getting actual hunger pains -- strong ones. YOu will

*know* when you are hungry and when you are full.

Some foods that are okay now may not be later, and vice versa.

All of this lies ahead.

Your brain is making adjustments that you don't think about consciously

-- like when you went to a buffet dinner, you never had to think about

how much food to put on the plate, you just know how much? Well, your

brain did that for you, without you thinking about it. And it has to

learn a lot of things over now. There are a lot of little automatic

things like that that your brain will be correcting, adjusting and doing

over the next 2-3 months.

Just be patient. You're right on target!

Kind regards,

Kay, you sound exactly like me! Dr. R must laugh his head off when he reads

these. Go back to early June, and you can see that I posted the same stuff.

BTW, I'm down 47 lbs., and am not quite 3 mos. out. See, it works!!! :)

Amy,

Thanks, I was really scared that all my staples had come lose and that I

still had my old tummy. What a relief.

Liz,

112 lbs. in 8 months? Unbelievable! If I weren't already 53 I'd wish that

my first year had already passed. Thanks for responding.

If your " staples came lose " you would be in a WORLD of hurt, because Dr.

R. actually CUTS THE OLD STOMACH AWAY. This is not the old

staples-across-the stomach operation. You have a small stomach, period.

The rest of it is floating around by itself about 3-4 inches away,

separately.

So you can stop worrying that your " staples came lose " as if that would

return you to your old size stomach -- ain't happenin'!
