Guest guest
Hi Lara, Dr. Rutledge explained about the shoulder pain. I can't really explain it the way that he did, but it is a sharp pain that hurts when I breath or move. It is not related to the MGB. I get it with all surgeries. A lot of people call it gas pain, but Dr. Rutledge said that he does not like to hear it called that because that's not what it is. It has something to do with an artery and is simular to the pain felt when you are having a heart attack. It does not happen to everyone, and is not a result of anything that Dr. Rutledge did during surgery. It usually takes about seven days for it to go away in my past experiences with it. The pain makes it hard to breath, walk or get up from a reclining position. Dr. R. says it helps to get up and walk, but I hurt SO bad that I only managed to stand beside the bed and sit over and over again. It's much better today. As far as the pain from the MGB itself, there is very little. I had a little cramping in my stomach area that came and went quickly. I occassionally feel a tug or pull when I turn or move quickly, but it is not really painful. My insicions look great and are healing well with no pain. I am drinking lots and lots of water, making an effort to sip water all day and some at night since my surgery to rid my body of the surgical meds quickly. I am eating yougart and drinking juices and eating some crackers. I have not weighted, and am not really worried about my rate of loss. I know that I will lose because I am eating so much less. I don't want to get hung up on the numbers because everyone goes through plateaus and it is depressing when you don't see a weight loss even though you are doing everything right. I will weigh on my PCP visits and post any progress. Hope you get to your goal real soon and can join the post-op crew! I was telling my husband last night that this is so much different than dieting. I understand now why I always failed. When I saw a Pizza Hut commercial on TV last night, the food looked good, and if I were dieting, I would have called and ordered one. I can always start another diet tomorrow! Since my surgery, I just see things that look good and say to myself, " Oh well, that looks good, but I can't have it " . The end. It's a lot different from dieting. It is so much easier to stay on track. I know that later I will be able to have more foods, but knowing that my stomach is so small and my digestive track is so different, I feel obligated to eat things that will keep me healthy. Keep up the good work and you'll see what I mean soon. It's hard to explain, but I am amazed with the change. All of the sudden, I have willpower and it feels great!
