Guest guest
Dear, Jzin, I truly do not know if you can make butter out of sheep or goat. When we where casein free we used Coconut Oil (it is like a " butter " ) and spreads well on things and has a wonderful anti- candida quality! I would be careful with the raw foods. If you are not healed enough to tolerate them they WILL cause problems. We have followed the guidelines in the BTVC book on when to introduce foods and are benifiting from doing so. We are only four months out and not even eating whole nuts yet and even some raw fruits and vegetables are out still. You see, Elaine said that what the body doesn't digest does harm, because it ferments and keeps the vicious cycle going. Gut dysbiosis never gets to go back into balance. This is not good. She also said that many can tolerate the 24 hour yogurt if they are " allergic " to dairy. That the proteins are denatured and do not cause the same reaction in some of us. It also helps in adding the good gut flora that helps in breaking the vicious cycle. We didn't have the same success with powder probiotics. SCDiet is also known to heal the gut, when done by the book, so that SOME allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities can vanish. Cosco has nuts that are very affordable, but please be careful with them. The milks are to be used liberaly if also eating nut flours. BTVC also said that too many nuts are not good. I truly do not think that thier is a legal Almond milk or nut milk for sell. AS some already know, we came gluten free, casien free and with countless other food intolerances (oxylates, phenols/salysilates and some of other lectins). Now can tolerate the yogurt, and most other foods well. No allergies any more. WE too had runny noses, amoung many horrible reactions. Truly, most allergies, sensitivities and intolerances are gone. It has been worth it following it by the book (chapter 9 and 10), because now we can eat yogurt, cheese, a little butter and more! NO problems with oxylates and phenols either. When we where in your shoes, we never thought this day would come. At one time we where so limited in what we could eat. Our list was getting smaller and smaller...now it grows. What a blessing this has been. Hope this helps to give hope, Antoinette and family of five doing better than we expected for only four months out! (SCD 2/06) due to past dx of: celiac, malabsorption, leaky gut, gut dysbiosis, multiple allergies and sensitivities, add, adhd, autism, hyperekplexia, and more... Guest guest
Hi Jzin, > can anyone recommend a good butter > that is non-cow > eg goat, sheep? > my dilemma is I want something SCD and ideally GFCF > or else just not cow product > since I suspect cow dairy gives my kids runny nose Coconut oil is one alternative. Commercial goat butter will probably be hard to find since goats don't normally give much cream and most species have " naturally homogenized " milk (at least relative to cows were it readily seperates). If you look for the commercial be careful because a few that I found online were made from whey instead of cream - read all the fine print and how they made it. Are you interested in making your own goat/sheep butter? > also > since we are doing mostly raw foods SCD > we want to get raw nuts to make nut milk > where is a good source? Some of these may have raw but I am not sure http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#ready Never use raw peanuts and have a look at " Nuts " in the " Knowledge Base " section at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ > is there an SCD nut milk sold out there? TMK, there are still no commercial nut milks that are legal, you need to make your own. Recipes for nut milk can be found at http://www.pecanbread.com/recipes.html Sheila, SCD 2/01, UC 22yrs mom of and

Slowly add the rest of the water and the honey. Strain in a nut bag squeezing out all the " milk " from the pulp. (You can use cheese cloth , but you will need several layers to get it properly strained.) You can use the pulp for other things. Look in your raw foods cook books for other ideas. Alyssa Cohen has a great website for raw foods and she sells nut bags. They cost about $9.00, but they last a long time if you take care of them

Seeds contain cyanide and if you use them to make a " milk " you may be getting a lot of cyanide. For more details please see the topics labelled " Seeds " , Seeds and Seed flours and " Seed Butters " at the Knowledge base at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ > Grind the nuts in you blender with 1-1/2 cups water until as smooth > as it gets. With all the good stuff (in the milk) all that is left in the pulp is food for the microbes that you are trying to starve with SCD. Guest guest
Goat butter can be purchased. It is expensive though. I've not seen sheep butter before. Nuts4u sells a lot of different types of nuts. There are other places as well. Just type in " raw nuts " into google and I'm sure you'll find numerous sources. Guest guest
My daughter uses the spectrum non-hydrogenated shortening just like butter. If you can find a butter flavor you trust you can add that to it.
