Guest guest
I live next door to a national wildlife refuge, with 5000 acres of wetlands, where they do not spray or do anything else to control mosquitos. We have them so bad here, you can only be outside if you are standing out in the full, hot sun... and even then they will sometimes still find us. In the last few years, I have used Repel's Lemon Eucalyptus repellent. I found it in the sporting goods section of our local grocery/department store (Fred Meyer/Kroger's). No DEET, or other chemicals... although some might not be able to tolerate the eucalyptus oil in it. Pretty strong smelling and greasy... but it does seem to work. I know some people swear by Avon's Skin-So-Soft bath oil, but I think this Lemon Eucalyptus stuff works better. Patti Mosquito Repellant Question OT Can someone give advice about what mosquito repellant to use. Something natural and not toxic to those who have autism, and multiple chemical sensitivity. Is just eating SCD safe garlic going to work? Thanks for the guidance, Antoinette and family of five (SCD 2/06) add, adhd, autism, celiac, malabsorption and more)

Guest guest
I've never tried eating the garlic before going out, but I assume that would work just as well as the garlic pills?? Last summer my son and I would take a garlic capsule before going to outdoor parties, and the capsule would seem to work the whole night long. Others were spraying themselves down with those bug sprays, and we weren't getting any bites at all. That is our new bug repellant in this house. Of course, we prefer the capsules as it doesn't affect your breath like eating the garlic does. I've also heard of, but never tried it, rubbing vanilla extract on your skin, or rather misting it on through a spray bottle and then rubbing it in a little. This would be straight vanilla extract, nothing with sugars in it. This is also supposed to work. I'd be interested if anyone has results with eating the garlic or using plain vanilla extract and how long you think it works for..as another option for our family. Thank you. > > Can someone give advice about what mosquito repellant to use. Something natural and not toxic to those who have autism, and multiple chemical sensitivity. Guest guest
I've been using Buzz Off this year. It's all natural and seems to work. They make a spray just for repelling bugs and a sunblock that has the bug repelling ingredients in it as well. It can be ordered online, but is also sold in health food stores. We also use the Bug repelling bracelets (that smell like citronella). They can be purchased at discount places like WalMart and Target. Even our Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them.
