Guest guest
Mandy, Can you describe what you are seeing as " intolerances " ? What happens when he eats green beans, broccoli or other veggies? What happens when he eats fruit? Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Welcome to the group Mandy, >> My son has intolerances to all veggies and fruits I have tried on > GFCF. Many have found that food they were intolerant of preSCD they are able to eat on SCD if they cut out the other foods that are actually causing problems (like rice, sugar etc.) For example, preSCD I was unable to eat onions without severe bloating gas, and bloody stools. After I started the diet I was able to eat the onions with no problems. It is best to start with the intro diet and gradually add foods from there . The intro diet (dairy free) can be found at http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro What fruits and vegetables have you tried and how were they prepared? > I have not yet > read Elaine's book but I plan to get a copy of it. Until you get your book there is lots of info explaining the diet at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ and http://pecanbread.com/ Sheila, SCD 2/01, UC 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Hi Mandy, SCD can be tough with lots of food allergies/intolerances, but still worth it. My son is on a very limited diet - he only tolerates a few veggies, meats and oils. Before SCD we were down to those foods plus rutabaga, turnip, buckwheat and quinoa. It was pretty scary to drop his only carbs, but I felt we were desperate as he was running out of foods he could eat and his gut inflammation and yeast were severe. Within a week of starting SCD he potty trained, went from basically nonverbal to nearly conversational, and acquired many basic skills. We still struggle with keeping his weight up and on basic nutrition (he doesn't tolerate any multivitamin). Does your son have IgE or IgG allergies? If IgG, he will need to strictly avoid those foods for at least 6 months to have a chance to outgrow the allergy. It takes that long for the body to " forget " about reacting to the food. I think the traditional SCD advice about adding allergic foods back in rapidly must apply just to IgG reactions - this isn't true of true IgE allergies. I have a Yahoo group for kids with autism and severe food allergies - you're welcome to join, or feel free to email me especially with any allergy-related questions. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/foodallergyautism Suzanne Tom 5, ASD, SCD 4 months > > I am new to this group and need help!!
