Guest guest
When beginning to make yogurt is it NECESSARY to purchase a yogurt maker? It seems like $60 is alot to spend, would it be ok to try a crockpot or the oven as the book states that you can? And as far as starters, we are casein free, is there a non dairy yogurt starter? I want to try the coconut milk... ONE LAST QUESTION...is there a good online source to purchase unsweetened coconut flakes? I guess this is my last queston...would the Lucy's Cookbook be a good starter recipe book or is it best to just wait it out and use this website's recipes? thanks- Hope
Guest guest
I agree that $60 is a lot for the 2 qt maker but mine has paid for it self multipule times. For me the oven or crock pot options just seemed like to much time and chance. I felt like it would tie up my oven for more time than I would want as I use it in some manner almost every day. There are some things for me it is just easier to 'bite the bullet' so to speak and get if you have the means. (I have been considering getting a second 2 qt maker as I keep my 1 qt and 2 qt going almost all the time.) Guest guest
I heard that BEd Bath and BEyond had 1 for 15 dollars. There is one online for 29..99 and free shipping. I'd be interested in what brand of nondairy yogurt starter if there is one. Do kids seem to tolerate coconut milk? I want to introduce my daughter to the yogurt. I was going to do goat milk. I never thought about coconut milk. I'd love some insight into that. I'll be looking out for cookbook recommendations! Thanks. Guest guest
Check the www.pecanbread.com website for listings of legal starters and where to get them. I believe the GI-ProGurt is dairy free. I love Lucy's cookbook.... not sure how many recipes are really dairy and egg free. I loaned my copy to someone so don't have it right in front of me. I may have to buy another!
