Guest guest
I have so far purchased Almond Flour but I see that it can cost much less to purchase the nuts & grind myself. I assume most of you do this? If so, what nut grinder do you use that will make these nuts into a good flour? Does it take a long time? Where do you purchase your nuts? Thanks! Guest guest
I live in Washington state... and almonds are about $8.99 a lb right now. Lucy's Kitchen Shop sells her wonderful almond flour for just $6 a lb, if you buy 5 lbs... less if you buy more (I don't have that much freezer space). I know there is shipping costs on top of that, but it still seems like a sweet deal for superior almond flour. Guest guest
Hi Cheri, I use my coffee grinder for grinding small amounts (2-3 C)of nuts. I hold it and shake as I goes so the flour doesn't get stuck under the blades. I do it in small bathches and it takes a while but is worth it because the grinder gives a very fine grind of flour. For larger amounts I use the food processor. I buy blanched nuts from my supermarket in the baking aisle. They come plain and are cheaper than the bulk sections (that I don't trust anyway). Guest guest
That's where I have been purchasing it. Just didn't know if it would be cheaper otherwise. Guest guest
Your regular food processor works well enough to make flour? No heavy duty processor? Mine is a pretty plain & simple food processor. Do you think that would work? Why don't you trust bulk?? > > Hi Cheri, > > I use my coffee grinder for grinding small amounts (2-3 C)of nuts. Guest guest
Hmmmm... I guess it would depend on how much you paid for almonds. If you can get a fabulously low price, you might want to try it... but it won't turn out as nice as Lucy's. Patti Re: Making Almond Flour That's where I have been purchasing it. Guest guest
<<I have purchased almonds blanched. Don't you?? Otherwise how do you blanch?>> Drop the whole almonds into boiling water for about a minute or so, then drain and spread on a towell. Let them cool... they're HOT! Then one by one, pick them up and squeeze them between thumb and finger... and they POP right out. Kids can help. Patti
Guest guest
wow, here in England we pay £2 for 125g!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and that's for the blanched almonds, no real difference in price with the ground, Josie > > I live in Washington state... and almonds are about $8.99 a lb right now. Guest guest
Hi Cheri, > Your regular food processor works well enough to make flour? Yes, with the blade attachment. It's a Braun Combimax 600 (it has a attachment for making awesome mayonnaise) > No > heavy duty processor? Mine is a pretty plain & simple food > processor. Do you think that would work? It may just try a little at a time and see what happens. My coffee grinder (with the shaking) makes a finer grind. > Why don't you trust bulk?? The bulk section of my grocery store is manned can have all sorts of cross contamination from the wheat flours/oats etc. nearby. Customers mixing up the scoops etc. Also it is more expensive.
