Guest guest
Hi, My name is Liz, and I am new to this group. We have not yet started the diet, but I am seriously considering it for my 5 1/2 (PDD) son and probably the whole family. Have not read BTVC yet, but hope to have it soon. We are currently GFCF. I'm thinking the summer is the best time to start this; while school is out. The diet seems much harder than GFCF, so I'm nervous about doing it. My son has yeast issues that have not cleared up on Nystatin or GSE. I'm hoping this diet will help him to be more calm, more flexible, more even-tempered, more social, and less stimming (please!) What kind of improvements have others seen for their high-functioning verbal children? Has this diet helped to reduce stimming for anyone? My son's stims are: constantly holding little toys, twirling them around and staring at them; also he does scripting and a lot of humming/singing. Currently the only things on the Intro diet that he will eat are the gelatin or popsicles, and maybe a few bites of scrambled egg and cooked carrots. What are others' experiences on the Intro diet with their picky eaters? Did they give in and finally take their first bites ever of hamburger or unbreaded chicken? The diet seems to allow for a lot of juice. Is this a problem for anyone? What about supplements? He currently takes a bunch of supplements and I doubt they are all SCD legal. Should I stop supplements with the Intro diet and slowly add them back in when I can find legal ones? He also just started taking Diflucan. Should I stop that when we start SCD? We saw improvement in my son when we stopped giving him dairy over a year ago. However, it sounds like we may be able to use goat yogurt with success. What are your recommendations for trying this and when? Whole Foods sells goat yogurt. Does it need to be made from scratch? It sounds like most, if not all, of this food needs to be prepared from scratch using fresh ingredients. How hard is this and how expensive? I just need to make sure I am being realistic about being able to do this diet successfully. Is restaurant food ever allowed? Finally, how long do most people need to stay on this diet? Though I know my son has gut issues, I don't think it may be as bad as some (he does not usually have diareah or constipation; but his stool is usually on the loose side). Sorry, I have so many questions! Thanks in advance for any advice. Liz
