Hi ,

I don't post often, but I do read. Just learned I'm a " lurker. " Sounds

obscene! Anyway, Congrats! You deserve some great news (bigger weight

loss). You are so supportive of everyone. Thank you for all the help you

give to all of us. Sherry 1 week, 1 day post-op and feeling better

everyday.

Thursday is my official weigh-in day and I only take whatever the scale

says on Thursday. What I found early on was that my weight could flux

up and down by as much as 5 pounds during any given day, but that

weighing the same time each week was a reliable weight loss indicator.

I'm probably going to jinx this week's weight loss by saying this, but I

just couldn't resist seeing the weight loss figure from yesterday again

today, so I got on the scales this morning and I was at *210* -- which

would be a SIX pound weight loss for this week. I was expecting to be

at 214 (my usual 2 lb. a week rate), so I was delighted with the 212 and

*astounded* to see 210. I'll take it!

What seems to be making the difference is that Dr. Rutledge ordered that

upper GI study and I got to see what was going on with my innards. I

have a stricture at the end of my esophagus (which acts like a Fobi

pouch -- food stays in the end of my esophagus and doesn't go the

stomach, so I get full *really* fast and throw up if I keep eating).

NOTE: THIS IS NOT CAUSED BY THE SURGERY, IT IS DUE TO MY HAVING HAD BAD

GASTRIC REFLUX (which is now cured by the MGB, but the scarring from the

previous problem is what is causing this stricture).

Before this study, I would get hunger pains (which, as you probably

know, is NOVEL!!!) but when I would eat and feel " full, " I still had the

hunger pains!

This was because it is my esophagus that gets full, not my stomach,

because there is a restriction at the end of my esophagus. It takes

another 30-45 minutes for the food to pass out of the esophagus through

this small opening to the stomach.

And during that time, I was still having hunger pains, so I kept eating

(slowly, but constantly, thinking that was what I should be doing . . .)

In other words, I was eating twice as much because the esophagus was

acting like a food reservoir.

Now that I know this, I just stop eating when I get the full feeling in

the esophagus and wait for the food to hit the stomach.

What a difference!

I'm getting skinny!!!!!!!

YEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

It feels SOOOO good to be wearing WAY baggy pants (the very same ones

that looked like a stuffed sausage at the beginning of summer) and TWO

FULL BRA CUPS SMALLER!!!!!!! I bet I lost at least a pound in each boob

this week alone -- what a visual, huh??!

I'd do the happy dance but all that syrup would make me dump and I don't

like syrup anymore anyway! LOL!

Hugs,

LOL! That's been the standard term for years and years. Don't take it

personally.

I'm glad to hear you are doing well!!! Welcome to the other side!

A new life, a new you. Yes!

People on this list helped me through the whole thing -- and they are

*still* helping me. I don't know what I would do without the friends

I've met here. What a place.

I don't know what else to say: you are an inspiration! Your thoroughness

is one thing, but the way you share the ups and downs with us is, well,

wonderful. Thank you VERY much.

Aw, gee thanks. I don't know what I would have done without the

wonderful people on this list to get me through everything, starting

back when I had to wait until November to change insurance companies

during open enrollment to get coverage, then wait until January for it

to go into effect, then I got turned down and had to fight with them,

then I got approved and the rest I documented!!

So it's motivated by self-survival! People here are so great and we

have such a *wealth* of diverse expertise on here. You name it, there

is somebody on here who is an expert at it and glad to help you with it.

Kind regards,
