Scratch/bump on the side above the ear...

Hello everyone.

I hope you can help me. My son is 7 months old.

He got his Doc Band a little while ago. After 4 days, we had to remove

it because his forehead & side of the face were burned. It went away

after 2 days & some corticoid cream.

Then he wore it for 9 days & yesterday night he had a bump just above

his right ear. It is infected & red. The poor thing he wasn't even

complaining. We desinfected it & put some antibiotic cream.

I'm so worried something is wrong with the helmet. I was wondering if

anybody went through the same thing? I am always reading positive

comments on it so I don't understand...

We have an appointment Monday with the orthotist. But meanwhile he

cannot wear the helmet until it's ill.

sorry to hear your having trouble. Sometimes if the band is getting

tight (from growth or because it is new) it will make a red spot and

if you don't catch it in time it can get pretty bad. Also babies can

sometimes get heat rash in band. There is also a possibility that

something you're using on his head, or to clean the band it irritating

his skin (and the heat and sweat might make it worse).

Hopefully CT will be able to help you figure out what is going on. One

problem we had once was that my daughter's head was itchy when the

band came off, and she could scratch her head with her nails if we

didn't keep her hands busy. So once she did get a little spot that was

irritated from that but it cleared up quickly with a little neosporin

(sp?).

You should clean the band only with alcohol and let it dry before

putting it back on. Also your son's head should be washed and dried -

try a very mild shampoo if you are currently using a smelly one. We

couldn't even use J & J with with my daughter.

I'm not sure if any of this will help, but those are the things that

came to mind. Let us know what you figure out.
